The Fire Sprinkler Scope of work consists of connecting to an existing dry system in two locations and providing fire protection for a new walkway. The work will start on the east side of th 5264 W. Overland and continue to the west side of 5100 W. Overland. One new row of extended throw sidewall sprinklers will be installed. The new work is calculated for Ordinary Group I, therefore NO storage or sidewalk sales are permitted on the new walkway. The walkway can only be used for pedestrian travel.

Building Department Scope:

(HILLCREST SHOPPING CENTER - NEW COVERED WALKWAY AND FACADE) (6-28-10 PLAN MODIFICATION TO REPLACE PREVIOUSLY APPROVED STOREFRONT WINDOW AND DOOR SYSTEMS WITH OPAQUE WALLS AND TO REALIGN VEHICULAR ACCESS TO PHILLIPPI STREET.) This building is fully fire sprinklered for unlimited area. To construct about 3,200 square feet of covered walkway with about 240 lineal feet of new façade where a demolished portion of the building (about 102,000 square feet) formerly connected to the remainder of the building on the South side. The demolished portion was formerly occupied by "Fred Meyer" and by "Honk's 99 Cents". The demolition was done under a separate permit. Work is to include concrete footings, concrete foundations, shear walls, concrete sidewalk, concrete curb ramps, steel columns, steel beams, steel roof joists, steel roof deck, brick veneer, 3-coat exterior stucco system, storefront glazing, exterior wall, metal roofing, single ply membrane roofing, and a suspended acoustical ceiling. Curb, gutter, sidewalk, asphalt paving, and a retaining wall will be constructed along Phillippi Street in conjunction with this permit. The work is required to comply with the approved drawings, with the plan review report, and with all applicable codes and ordinances. The fire sprinkler system is required to comply with NFPA 13 as regulated by the Fire Department. **CJW**

One of the new earthquake bracing attachment points needs to be taken to the deck as discussed. Also the sidewall sprinkler heads are listed to be installed 6" to 12" below the deck. Some of them are actually installed 4" below the deck.

Provide the missing earthquake bracing at the east end of the system and change the lateral bracing to a longitudinal brace at the 2 1/2" connection point per the plans. Also many of the new sidewall heads exceed 6" down from the deck. Per the detail on the plans the heads are to be installed at 6". There was no data sheet provided to verify if the heads could be up to 10" below the deck as some are installed now.
