The following email was sent to Jeff, at TVFP 7/18/08:
Jeff,
Due to the 15,000 sf size of this space and the high occupancy load of the surrounding mall area which would be at risk by less-than-adequate sprinkler coverage, we are not comfortable with the scope of work as written on your demolition application.
We would like you to re-write the scope, deleting the sentences indicating the existing pendent sprinklers and drop piping is to be left in place until the new ceilings and walls have been constructed and heads re-installed at that time to their proper place in the new ceiling. We would like your scope to indicate that wherever the ceiling is removed, the drop piping and sprinklers will immediately be removed and upright sprinklers will be installed within the prescribed distance below the roof deck. Arm-overs are to be used wherever necessary to maintain proper head separation and spacing, as walls are removed.
Because this is a larger, operating mall, we also want to emphasize the necessity to minimize sprinkler system impairment periods and request that you keep the FD advised of which sprinkler system(s) are shut down, so the responding company will know, in case of an emergency. This should be done even though periods of impairment are not intended to exceed 8 hours.
Looking forward to receiving your revised scope.
Thanks,
Sam Rogers,
PDS/Fire Mgr
