Building is wood frame non-rated construction, fully sprinklered with NFPA 13 system; 1/2 hour fire-resistive fire partitions for corridor wall & corridor lid construction; walls between sleeping units / dwelling units shall be 1/2 hour fire-resistive fire partitions; 1/2 hour horizontal fire-resistive assembly between units and bewteen other occupancies unless a full 1-hour assembly is required to separate mixed use occupancies; 1-hour fire-resistive fire barrier walls and 1-hour fire-resistive horizontal assemblies between mixed use occupancies of "A" & "R" and "R" & "S2" (sheet A0.1) and at stair enclosure separation. The data does not address requirements for a specific "I" joist assembly as is being used for this project using cellulose insulation. Joe will continue to search for listed assembly for "I" joists for submittal. Joe to review with Jim Glancey for assembly components of UL system L582 for fully insulated 1-hour assembly for the truss roof portion of project. If construction & components comply, the assembly will meet what is being proposed for full cavity cellulose insulation for that portion.

Reviewed e-mails and attachments regarding use of cellulose in floor/ceiling fire-resistive assemblies received from Joe Swinford, project product rep. The UL wall assemblies, u305, u309, u341 & u356 all allow the use of US Greenfiber cellulose in the assemblies and would work. A specific approval for use of cellulose in an "I" joist assembly has not been found and is stll required. Assembly UL L582 appears that it would work for the truss type floor or roof system if the trusses and components are as stated in the specific listing, for a full depth cellulose insulation application. Joe will keep looking for an "I" joist listed assembly.

Talked with Sarah McClendon, Project Strucutral Engineer, concerning PDF documents e-mailed to me 5/24/11 in late afternoon to forward to Steve Call, Structural Plan Review for PDS for this project. Two PDF's of S4.1 & S5.1 were provided. There were no calculations or additional plans. Sarah indicated the design details were per previous dicussions with Steve and new calcs were not needed. I forwarded sheets to Steve Call and ask him to call me.

He said they were not sufficient for him to review and approve for final structural review. Justin will verify specific insulation type and provide me a list of the location, plan detail and type of insulation proposed. Reviewed use of fire assembly detail GA File No. WP 3242, 18th edition of gypsum fire amnual, in place of Detail 4/A5.1as this assembly would match his proposed framing layout. Structural Engineering Plan Review Report received. Review failed. Structural plan review engineer met with design team engineer for a few hours to review the comments and possible methods to resolve. A copy of the report was given to Sarah McClendon at the meeting. I will forward copy to Design Professional of Record tomorrow AM.

Talked with Contract Structural Plan Reviewer, Steve Call. He thought the review would be done today but that resubmittals are required. He will contact Sarah McClendon as soon as report is done to review with her (design engineer).

Steve Call said he had spent the last two hours with Sarah McClendon going over items remaining to be addressed in structural plan review. Had resolved most of the issues. Sarah will prepare required documents and details. Steve gave Sarah a copy of the report and is e-mailing me a copy now.

4 pm - met with Jim Glancey & Justin Wall to review concerns with Plans for 12th & river Senior Apartments, Enclosed Parking Garage and support areas. Discussion involved opening in corridor floor between 2 & 3rd floors, piping duct & vent penetrations between floor and if there are rated shafts of if using fire dampers & firestopping at each penetration at each floor, Stair enclosure wall construction, exiting and opening protection, there occupancy classification of the main floor common area, elevator door smoke protection at opening to corridor (question on this one and they wanted an interpretation from Jason Blais, B.O.), energy code watts per square foot used for parking garage and other parts of common areas, Daylighting and lighting controls in those areas at 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors, Allowe glazing in doors for safety glass - wire glass does not copmly W/O testing for safety glass, special inspection for high strength bolts per sec. 1704, proposed fire-rated wall and floor assemblies for component make-up and additional requirements before insulation can be added if not part of the tested assembly originally, louvers not allowed in smoke doors connected to the rated corridor, the specific areas that would require a full 1-hr horizontal assembly (cannot be reduced by sprinklers and support structure needs to be rated to match assembly, need for supporting data for use of foam plastic insulation per Ch. 26 IBC. I told them I would call them back tommorrow with interpretation on need for smoke protection at elevators and finish plan review write up based on our discussion for their response.

Called to set up meeting with design architects Jim Glancey, to sit down with me to review questions concerning the 12th & River Senior Apartment. I ended up talking with Justin Wall concerning the openings in the floor of the corridor, how ar floor penetrations being handle (shafts or firestopping at each floor & fire dampers) and other items. I aks if he could talk with Jim Glancey and then call me to set up a meeting so we could review all the items of concern. Justin will check and call me back.
