The fire sprinkler scope of work consists of two level 16-unit apartment building. The system has 2” underground piping, floor level control valves, a looped design, uses CPVC piping and residential sprinklers.

[BLD18-01080]
The NFPA 13R fire sprinkler system is used for occupancy. To construct a new 10,276 square foot apartment building (5,248 square feet 1st story and 5,028 square feet 2nd story) having a total of 16 dwelling units (8 units per story). All ground floor units are required to comply as Type B dwelling units with at least one ground floor unit also complying as a Type A dwelling unit. Work is to include concrete footings, concrete stem walls, concrete piers, concrete slab on grade with thickened sections at interior bearing walls, wood stud bearing walls, wood columns, wood stud shear walls with structural sheathing and hold downs, a 1-hr fire-resistance-rated 2nd story floor constructed of wood joists and wood sheathing, an egress balcony and stairways to serve the 2nd story, guards at the 2nd story, exterior doors and windows, cast stone exterior wall wainscot, exterior horizontal lap siding, exterior vertical board and batten siding, 1-hr fire-resistance-rated wood truss roof system with wood roof sheathing, attic draft stops, fiberglass shingles, interior nonbearing walls, 1-hr fire-resistance-rated dwelling unit separation walls, millwork, and finishes. Special Inspection is required for soils, steel connectors for wood, and for anchors post-installed in hardened concrete. The design for the roof trusses is a deferred submittal item. Existing Building C and the new building are considered to be one building. Both buildings are required to have an NFPA 13R fire sprinkler system, both buildings are required to be of Type V-A construction, and both buildings are required to have an R-2 type fire alarm system. The separation of existing Building C from the other existing buildings on site is required to comply with the 2015 IBC based on an imaginary property line drawn between them. The work is required to comply with the approved drawings, with the structural design, with the plan review report, and with all applicable codes and ordinances. The fire sprinkler system is required to comply with NFPA 13 and the fire alarm system is required to comply with NFPA 72 as regulated by the Fire Department. Separate fire sprinkler permits and fire alarm permits shall be obtained prior to beginning any modification or installation work on such systems. **CJW**

Alternative Materials and Methods:
This project includes approved code alternates to the following fire protection systems and/or building life safety systems. Please review the supplemental documents attached to this building permit case for details. Fire protection “shop drawings” shall include approved code alternate design.

• There is one AMM – Eliminates the need for extra floor level control valves.

_____________
Udg installation appeard to be adequate.
One hydro held fine, no loss.
The second hydro was low when I arrived. The contractor showed up and fixed a leak where the guage was connected. When I arrived the second time the UDG appeared to be holding pressure. I saw no visible leakeage.
