FIR11-00503 INSP-Final Inspection10/13/201110/14/201110/14/2011 4:35:17 PMPFAIL
Today's inspection was a partial test of the new fire alarm panel interconnection with the existing system circuits. Existing initiating devices tested today included most of the first floor main school building smoke detectors and manual pull stations. All tested items functioned and reported to the FACP. The items remaining to be tested include the gym, 2nd floor of the main building, and the portables. During inspection of the notification functionality, it was identified that parts of the building were temporal code and conflicted with surrounding areas that are steady tone. Per the original discussions, the entire existing building was reported to be steady tone, and that is why the new area was allowed to be installed to match. The areas with temporal include the auditorium and mixed devices throughout the rest of the school. This issue has been deferred to the plan reviewer and Scott Arellano. There is a non-functioning horn/strobe on the second floor that needs to be repaired. In addition, the gymnasium strobes are not synchronized and are newer system sensor devices. It is unclear if a permit was pulled for that work. Stephanie Cobbley is going to verify when synchronization started being required in code. Simplex is to let her know when the gym devices were installed. And finally, as-builts are required showing actual circuit call-outs since they are different than the contractor originally thought.

FIR11-00464 INSP-Sprinkler Rough-in/Hydro10/13/201110/14/201110/14/2011 11:18:56 AMAFAIL
The piping as installed appears ok. The problem is the 3" main has been re-routed around a hood which has added an additional elbow and tee to the hydraulic calculations. Pipe routing and size has changed in a closet as well both of these items are located in remote area #2. The designer needs to verify with plan review that the hydraulic calculations are still adequate for this area. A flat face bushing has been installed which is not allowed per NFPA 13. A upright head in the same area as the two hoods is blocked by duct work and when the hoods are installed additional blockage may occur. I spoke to the general contractor, Todd, about the coolers and he stated that piping modifications will be required due to the height of the coolers conflicting with the sprinkler piping which is also located in remote area #2. The hydro test for today is cancelled due to the dry pendants not being installed and the flat face bushing needing to be removed as well as apparent changes needed to the piping as installed.

I spoke to the general contractor about potential fire alarm issues due to new wall/room layout. He stated that CheckPoint would be the contractor and they work directly through PetsMart.
FIR11-00478 INSP-Sprinkler Rough-in10/13/201110/14/201110/14/2011 9:31:52 AMAPASS
Sprinkler piping is ok to cover.
FIR11-00473 INSP-Sprinkler Rough-in10/13/201110/14/201110/14/2011 8:13:39 AMAPART
Sprinkler piping is ok to cover. The single pendant head located in the storage room is spaced at 9'-1" off of one wall. This exceeds the distance allowed for the small room rule plus this is a ordinary hazard area. This head will need to be relocated and can be verified at the final inspection.
