1. (Ramp handrails) Ramps having slopes steeper than 1 unit vertical in 20 units horizontal shall have handrails as required for stairways, except that intermediate handrails shall not be required. (1997 UBC 1003.3.4.5)

2. (Handrail extensions and returns at ramps) Handrails shall be continuous the full length of the ramp and at least one handrail shall extend in the direction of the ramp run not less than 12 inches beyond the top of the ramp nor less than 12 inches beyond the bottom of the ramp. Ends shall be returned or shall have rounded terminations or bends. (1997 UBC 1003.3.3.6) Note the exceptions for private ramps and dwelling units.

3. (Allowed projections into stairway width) Handrails may project into the required width a distance of 3-1/2 inches from each side of a stairway. Stringers and other projections such as trim and similar decorative features may project into the required width 1-1/2 inches from each side. (1997 UBC 1003.3.3.2)



5. (Height of handrails for stairways) The top of handrails and handrail extensions shall not be placed less than 34 inches nor more than 38 inches above landings and the nosing of treads. (1997 UBC 1003.3.3.6)

1. BRACED WALL PANELS - Braced wall lines shall consist of braced wall panels which are in line or offset from each other by not more than 4 feet. Braced wall panels shall start at not more than 8 feet from each end of a braced wall line. All braced wall panels shall be clearly indicated on the plans. (1997 UBC 2320.11.3) Braced wall lines are considered to end at perpendicular braced wall lines. Braced wall panels shall meet the requirements for location, type, and amount of bracing specified in 1997 UBC Table 23-IV-C-1. The construction of braced wall panels shall be by one of the methods listed in 1997 UBC 2320.11.3. Diagonal braces are not allowed in Seismic Zone "2B". (1997 UBC Table 23-IV-C-1) windows sized to only a 50 ft wall length and pop out cantalever not per plan needs planreviewers approval.
