- fireplace upstairs failed due to framing clearances and the flue going out the back of the fireplace. if the flue comes out the top of fireplace clearances will be good.also need clearances on side of fireplace- gasline needs to be rigid or sleeved going through the fireplace. gas line also needs a shut off valve ahead of fireplace-
