(MK PLAZA I - BUILDING UPGRADE) The fire sprinkler system is used to partially resolve life safety concerns about the existing atrium. To complete Phase I of a 6 phase project to modify an existing building to comply with the smoke management recommendations outlined in a report dated July 25, 1997 prepared by a consultant mechanical engineer. On the 6th floor, work includes installing a fire sprinkler system, installing smoke containment on the elevator doors, upgrading the 1-hr corridor "smoke barrier" where necessary, installing smoke and smoke/fire dampers, and modifying the alarm system. In the basement, work includes installing a new fire line, installing a new fire pump, modifying the existing fire sprinkler system, upgrading the 1-hr corridor "smoke barrier" where necessary, and modifying the fire alarm system. Work shall comply with the approved drawings and specifications, the smoke management engineer's recommendations, and plan check conditions on file. The fire sprinkler system shall comply with NFPA 13 as regulated by the Fire Department. Each future phase remodel requires a separate permit. The entire project, including future work, is approved to be in accordance with 1994 codes and standards. PC-629-97 **CJW** (1-27-99) A NEW PROJECT PHASING SCHEDULE WAS APPROVED. SMOKE/FIRE DAMPERS ARE NOT BEING INSTALLED UNDER THIS PERMIT. THEY WILL BE INSTALLED DURING A FUTURE CONSTRUCTION PHASE.
