EMPIRE BLDG-6TH FLR - To modify the existing building fire alarm system by adding manual pull stations, supplimentary area smoke detection, induct smoke detectors for heat pump air handler shut down and a/v notification devices, to meet current Code within the TI project being done on the 6th floor. This permit also includes the relocation of improperly located existing alarm devices on the 5th floor. The devices to be relocated on the 5th floor are designated on the plans as "as built" modifications, although these modifications will not be made until this permit is issued. The permit also includes plan modifications to reflect "as built" circuit wiring on existing a/v circuits which were discovered to have not been wired in accordance with previously approved plans.
The associated building permit (BLD 02-00259) is to construct a 7,200 square foot office tenant space on the 6th floor of the Empire Building. This tenant will occupy the entire floor. The floor structure in one area is being reinforced for storage loading. Work is to include interior nonbearing walls, interior doors, interior windows, suspended ceilings, millwork, and interior finishes all per approved drawings, engineering, and plan review conditions on file. This building is fire sprinklered under the provisions of the 1994 UCBC because it is too tall, too big, and has too many stories. The fire sprinkler system shall comply with NFPA 13-1999 as regulated by the Fire Department.
