The operation of the hvac system when activated from the jail side failed. Six of the sprinkler system tamper switches failed to function correctly. Need to verify that the doors on the main level have been adjusted for closure since they previously failed. Addtional smoke detectors, pull stations smoke detectors, dampers and duct detectors tested ok today.

The corrections have been made on the notification circuits and a spot check of the EOL voltage drop passed. See the city approved plans for the initiating devices tested, as marked OK, on the plans. See the plans for doors that have been clouded that did not fully close. Two of the hvac units, one supply and one exhaust, did not function. The smoke dampers were not tested since access to the louvers was not available on all of the dampers. The duct detectors were not tested because the sample tube in the first one was mounted incorrectly, had not plug in the end and was made of EMT with holes drilled in it. It appears additional smoke detector coverage will be required at a stairwell door, I deferred the contractor to the plan reviewer on this item. Additional initiating devices need to be tested/verified such as the fire sprinkler risers and fire pump as well as all of the correction items addressed.

I spoke to Mark about the job schedule. The project is not complete/tested due to two existing fire/smoke damper motors being non-functional. I stated my concerns with starting an inspection on a project that was not complete especially with my current work load. I also pointed out potential strobe problems in the "Evidence Storage" area and a possible audio only solution which will need to be followed up with the plan reviewer. I also noted that the detectors installed infront of the currently non-functional dampers will need to be installed with-in 12" as per NFPA 72. I let the electrician know that the existing fire alarm system will have to be removed, including wire, prior to the project final. We also discussed an earlier phone conversation with Mark and the plan reviewer that required the control modules for the elevator recall will need to be removed since the elevator controls are not going to be installed at this time. As-built plans will need to be provided.

Inspection was inadvertantly called in for a final but this turned into a conference. Per Mark, with simplexgrinnell the elevator recall controls will not be installed at this time but infact will be installed some time within the next three years. Per stephanie the modules that interconnect the elevator controls with the new FACP are to be removed and as-builts provided to the fire inspector. A separate FIR permit will be requird in the future for the monitoring of the elevator recall functions.
