Description
[Fidelity/Montandon Building Front Awnings at 8th Street and Idaho Street]
The fire sprinkler scope of work consists of adding non-combustible awnings to the front of the existing building. New extended coverage dry hsw will be added to protect under the new awnings. The awnings are for restaurant seating for the existing restaurants.

[BLD18-01250]
The fire sprinkler system is used to substitute for 1-hr fire-resistance-rated construction. To construct a new steel awning (2,145 square feet total) on the 8th Street side (6 feet 10 inches at upper projection and 13 feet 9 inches at the lower projection) and on the Idaho Street side (6 feet 9 inches’ projection) of the Fidelity / Montandon Building. The awnings will cover fenced sidewalk dining and drinking seating for “Diablo & Son’s” and “Bittercreek Alehouse / Red Feather Lounge”. The ceiling of the awnings will have a minimum 10-foot clearance above the sidewalk. The awning frame will be constructed of steel channels, tube steel beams, cantilevered tube steel beams, and tube steel outriggers. The frame will be attached to existing masonry and/or concrete building columns with post-installed anchors. The awning will have tube steel beams, steel angles, steel decking, glass mat sheathing on top of the steel decking, a fully adhered PVC roofing membrane on top of the glass mat sheathing, and a 2 x 2 lay-in ceiling grid with tin panels and light fixtures below. A sloped 2-inch diameter steel rod with clevis connections at the awning and at the existing exterior wall of the building will also support the awning. A steel clevis plate with through bolts and backing plate (or anchors post-installed in masonry or hardened concrete) will be provided to connect the sloped steel rods to the existing building at approximately the same elevation as the 2nd story floor diaphragm. The roof of the awnings will slope away from the building and will drain to the planters below via down spouts. Special Inspection is required for welding, for bolting, and for anchors post-installed in masonry or hardened concrete. Special Inspection is also required to investigate the 10 existing building columns and the exterior walls that will support the new canopy by ground penetrating radar or other means to establish the column and wall base material and reinforcing. Once the existing conditions are determined, a structural evaluation is required to verify that the existing elements will not be overloaded by the new awnings. This structural evaluation is a deferred submittal item. A retractable canvas awning will also be installed next to the fixed steel awning on the Idaho Street side. The work is required to comply with the approved drawings, with the structural design, with the plan review report, and with all applicable codes and ordinances. The area below the fixed awning is required to have fire sprinkler coverage. The fire sprinkler system is required to comply with NFPA 13 and the fire alarm system is required to comply with NFPA 72 as regulated by the Fire Department. Separate fire sprinkler permits and fire alarm permits shall be obtained prior to beginning any modification or installation work on such systems. **CJW**

Alternative Materials and Methods:
