(NEW ELEVATORS – EXISTING ELEVATOR TOWER – ST. LUKE’S HOSPITAL TOWER) The fire sprinkler system is used for high-rise and for occupancy. To install 2 new elevators in an existing elevator hoistway shaft. The shaft will be restored to 2-hr fire-resistance-rated construction where deficient. The new elevators will serve 11 stories. Demolition work includes removing infill floors at each floor level within the existing elevator hoistway shaft. An opening will be created in the penthouse floor to facilitate elevator cab installation and hoistway venting. Openings will be created in the penthouse roof to accommodate the hoistway vent and the ducts from the new roof top HVAC units. Work is to include a 2-hr hoistway vent shaft at the top of the elevator hoistway, a gravity ventilator hood on the roof, two roof top HVAC units to condition the elevator equipment room, hoistway beams, concrete roof infills, elevator blocking beams, elevator equipment, structural separator beams, 2-hr walls to restore the 2-hr fire-resistance-rating of the elevator shaft, an elevator pit concrete slab, two new elevators, elevator hoistway shaft doors having a fire-protection-rating of at least 90 minutes at each story, structural sills at each elevator door, and new elevator lobby finishes including repairs to the suspended acoustical ceilings. Special Inspection is required for anchors post-installed in hardened concrete (expansion and epoxy) and for welding. The existing elevator lobby enclosures are required to be maintained on each story. The work is required to comply with the approved drawings, with the structural design, with the plan review report, and with all applicable codes and ordinances. Egress paths for each story are required to be maintained at all times. The fire sprinkler system is required to comply with NFPA 13 and the fire alarm system is required to comply with NFPA 72 as regulated by the Fire Department. Separate fire sprinkler permits and fire alarm permits shall be obtained prior to beginning any modification or installation work on such systems. **CJW**
