Received response from structural engineer concerning racking. Engineer stated that engineering package #02-0476A using 1/4" long-thread style Hilti Kwik Bolt II x 1-1/8" embedment were for max. 12 foot high rack systems and package #02-0539A was for racks greater than 12' to 16' maximum using 3/8" Hilti Kwik Bolt II x 2-1/2" embedment with storage height maximum of 18' above finish floor based on fire supression design data. Inserted information recieved into plans and routed back to fire code analyst for re-review.

RETURNED PHONE CALL TO BEN HILL. NO NEED TO SUBMIT NEW SHEETS T1.0 & A5 TO CHANGE DIMENSIONS FROM 20 FEET TO 18 FEET MAXIMUN STORAGE HEIGHT, 2 FEET ABOVE THE RACK HEIGHT INSTEAD OF 4 FEET. THIS HEIGHT MATCHES THE SPRINKLER SYSTEM DESIGN DATA INFORMATION PROVIDED BY SHILO AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER SYSTEMS TO PROVIDE HIGH PILE CLASS IV COMMODITIES PROTECTION. i WILL NOTE CHANGE ON PLAN SHEETS & CLOUD FOR CHANGES. HEIGHT WILL BE VERIFIED IN FIELS AND IS RECORDED IN DESIGN DATA SUBMITTED TO FIRE AND AS MODIFIED ON PLANS BY ME. WAITING FOR DESIGN ENGINEERS ANALYSIS WHERE HE HAD NOTED 12' RACK HEIGHT FOR 6 FOOT SECTIONS AND A HILTI CONNECTION NOT APPROVED FOR RESISTANCE OF SEISMIC LOADS PER ER REPORT.

Based on engineers reference to ER-4427 for Hilti Kwik Bolt II for attachment of the racking to the floor and discrepencies between the report and a detail for 1/4" anchor bolts at 1-1/8" embedment not being acceptable to resisit seismic lateral loads I ask the engineer to review his design details. I faxed a copy of the request to Sal E. Fateen, Seizmic Material Handling Engineering and Ben Hill, Arrow Rock Architects. Also ask for clarification of design hieght of 12 feet for the 6 foot rack sections versus the architects call out for 16 foot height racks with storage to 20 feet to make sure which is right and that proper design consideration is given if greater height is used.

Called Ben Hill architect, to verify the height of the racks to be installed. the 16' dimension on the front of p[lans was written over with 20'. Ben said the racks were to be 16 feet as he understood with storage height to 20 feet. I told him that in checking with fire code analyst, plans for the fire supression system modifications and a list of hte Class IV commodities have been submitted to Bill Alexander, sprinkler system plans reviewer.
