TO MODIFY PLUMBING, ELECTRICAL, PERIMETER RAILS, LANDINGS, EXIT DOORS/SIGNAGE AND EMERGENCY LIGHTING, DOOR HARDWARE AND ROOF FINISH FOR PUBLIC & PATIENT USE. To complete the interior build out & finish for portions of the entire 357,555 sq. ft., 10 story central tower, 9 stories for medical and support uses' and 1 story for mechanical penthouse and a 41,610 sq. ft. basement. First floor pharmacy and 2nd floor access corridor are being completed and occupied under separate permits (BLD05-00635 & BLD05-00634). Work includes protection of building elements per Table 601 for "IA" construction of 2003 IBC; framing to be non-combustible, with finishes per approved plans; electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire supression, alarm, medical gas and exit systems to meet tenant needs and provide compliance with minimum current adopted codes and ordinances. work also includes selective interior demolition and remodel of portions of the existing North and South Towers as they are connected to the new Central Tower. The 4th floor garden are needs the emergency light at the stairs repaired and the sprinkler head just inside of the stairway door provided with a canopy and the tape removed. The inspection was for the life safety on the 8th and 9th floors. The inspection was stopped on the eighth floor due to exit sign locations not matching the city approved plans. Also one exit sign was not working. Tom directed the electrician to install per the plans and per the installation on the 4th and 5th floors.

Inspection was to check the operation of the emergency lights and exit signs. We found out that by testing the emergency generator the pharmacy would be shut down which was not going to be acceptable by the st als people so no test was performed.

I walked through the phase 1 areas with Wayne and looked at the placement of exit signs, fire extinguishers and door hardware only. See the city approved plans for locations of deficiencies. I also noted the lack of emergency lights and exit signs on the roof top which exits people to the stairwells. An emergency generator test of the emergency lighting will need to be scheduled.

Separate telcons today with Tom Hayes, McCarthy Const and Darrel Fugate, St Als, Facility Dir. regarding how to expedite final approval for "move-in" approval. I confirmed we are following the signed agreement. Extra manpower has been and will continue to be provided for inspection work but much work yet remains to be done.
We have been providing ½ day inspections on the FA system on a regular basis. The ½ day FA inspection today, found only 12 items resolved, of the 59 items on the correction list from yesterday. A copy of the latest "punch list" of the FA system was faxed to Mr. Fugate, at his request.
We also received an email at 2:30pm today from TVFP indicating they have "5 more sheets that need to be resubmitted for changes requested by the owner". I don't know if those sheets refer to work within Area 1, but I explained we do not have the capability to review, issue and inspect those sheets by Friday. We have been witnessing hydro-tests and conducting rough-in inspections of the sprinkler systems as work is completed.
A "final" was requested for today but that was not completed due to manpower limitations.
I explained we do not have the manpower to do Fire/Life safety inspections simultaneously with sprinklers and alarms. We normally leave F/LS inspections until after the sprinkler and alarm systems have been passed.
They asked if there is any way they could provide extra manpower to assist. I indicated the contractors could use additional skilled persons to pre-inspect their work and generate the type of "punch lists" the City inspectors have been providing. That would greatly reduce the City inspection workload and would speed up the final inspection process by the City inspectors. This would apply to the fire/life safety aspects, as well as to alarms and sprinklers.

It is correct that any alarm installation work is required by Code to comply with NFPA 72 installation rules. As to your comment that they are not required, I will have to have the fire inspector evaluate each space according to IFC 907.2.12.1 (1) before we can confirm whether they are required or not. The Mechanical and Building inspectors (Alan Hauser and Tom Arcoraci) should also be in agreement before a final decision is made to remove them.

The assembly is for a 2-hour rated perimeter fire containment system between the Wausau Curtain Wall and the edge of concrete slab per the listing.
