"Jake Lehman RCE-3375" (HYDE PARK MENNONITE CHURCH) To modify existing stairway from basement to main level lobby of building, on the north side, per approved plans and DRH05-00217. Work includes selective demolition; installation of new micro lam beams and connectors per engineering to support existing structure and provide minimum headroom clearance; construct new landings at top & bottom of remodeled stairs (Winder is not allowed per code, Sec.1009.8, red-lined on plans); construct new roof structure and exterior wall at stairs to fully enclose; to remove portion of existing concrete foundation and main floor to widen stairs and provide new access from basement to stairs; install new thickened floor slab and bearing wall below relocated floor support; to insulate new roof and exterior walls to meet energy code compliance; install new finishes to interior & exterior of stair enclosure; install new lighting, switching and emergency lighting; and handrails & guards to meet minimum code compliance. Post maximum occupant load signs on main level (88) and basement (70) assembly rooms as noted on sheet 4. (drs)

Russ Buschert and his contractor Jake Lehman came in to signe Jake up for the ESC R.P. class at BSU. Jake will attend to receive certification as an R.P. Jake was given a temporary R.P. # which can be used for this project. I was notified by Darla Downs that the process was complete, so I will route the plans back to ESC for approval.

Called structural engineer, Jesse @ Pinnacle Eng. to review beam required under existing wall at interior side of stairway remodel. Plans by architect indicate (3) 9.5" TJI's and engineering data provided to design the 14" header across stairs indicates that (3) 1.75" x 9.5" LVL's fail in bending & deflection. Jesse will review and fax me requirements for this beam and I will red-line on plans and attach his design data.

Received design data from Pinnacle Eng. Jesse & Eric Wolfe stating beam requirements to support under existing wall and roof being modified to expand width of stairs. Beam needs to be (3) 1.75 x 11.875 below structure at 7 in 12 slope per plans to match new TJI roof joists. Attach beam to 14" LVL with 'Simpson' HHUS 5.50/10 sloped hanger, all per engineers analysis, copy attached to plans.

Received copies of plans and engineering data from Russ Buschert. We reviewed in lobby. Approved Russ to turn in plans to permit desk to be date stamped as resubmittals. Russ provided floor plans of main level and basement with room use, area, exits, occupant loads and engineering design data. Inserted new plans into original and red-lined engineering on plans to avoid delaying issuance of permit once the ESC concern about a certified RP is completed.

The church still inteands to do project but has had problem with getting contractor and then get the architect to respond to plan review conditions. They now have contractor but nothing from architect yet. Russ will call architect, James Gibson. I told Russ' wife the plans have exceeded the 180 days when they normally expire.
