Meeting  9/27/2007 DONE
Onsite meeting with Bob Smith at his request, to discuss lack of sprinklers in two large "over-build" roof areas. Observed concrete floor being poured as required by Fire Marshal between exterior door and sprinkler riser/FAC panel area, which is not to be enclosed at this shell stage. The "overbuild" areas definitely require sprinklers, neither area was shown on sprinkler drawings and they were not reported by sprinkler installer; deficiency was discovered by Fire inspector at 1st sprinkler rough-in inpection on 9/25/07. Suggested providing antifreeze protection in the overbuild areas or possibly installing insulation at roof deck and creating sufficient openings in the lower OSB boards to allow adequate heat into the area for wet sprinklers. I expressed concern that heat may not be adequate after suspended ceilings are installed which will further restrict heat migration into the upper level overbuild areas, so it may require supplemental heating. If wet sprinklers are installed, we would need to have low temp monitoring within those overbuild spaces, monitored by the fire alarm system. I subsequently called sprinkler contracotr and learned they are already looking into both design options with the building contractor and truss manufacturere; I repeated my concern that heat may not be adequate, especially after suspended ceilings are installed which will further restrict heat migrating into these upper level overbuild areas, and supplemental heating may bwe required but the contractor did not feel that would be a problem. I pointed out if wet sprinklers are used, we will need to have low temp monitoring of teh overbuild space by the fire alarm system.

On site conference regarding general contractors intent to pursue a temporary occupancy approval. Noted no fire alarm permit work inspections have been requested or performed to date, also no overhead fire sprinkler rough-in inspections for the AG system have been done or scheduled except for two concealed spaces at two roof dormers, informed GC that TCO's are only approved with the permission of the fire chief.

Meeting  7/16/2007 DONE
Meeting held today with Bryan Johnson, Sam Rogers and Jason Blais, and Matt Kahn, sprinkler designer, at request of sprinkler designer to discuss field modifications of the building shell, which affect the sprinkler design. The building has been built without ceilings and the insulation has been installed on underside of the roof deck. (The approved plans show ceilings and insulation directly on the ceiling). The project manager, Jason Blais, will advise the contractor, Bob Smith, of the need to obtain Building Dept approval for the field modification to the shell building energy envelope. The sprinkler system will be designed with wet sprinklers at the roof level designed for light hazard and will have capped drops for future sprinklers (below future ceilings) capable of protecting high piled storage of Class IV commodities on racks storage to 15' high with in-rack sprinklers. (Max clear height to bottom of trusses is 18'). Any future tenant high piled storage will require a flat ceiling to be installed for adequate sprinkler design. It will be the responsibility of any future tenants who install ceilings, to provide an approved means of maintaining their attic space above 40F.
