Strata has observed the 6 drilled shaft foundation excavations along the North blg line for the proposed shop building at 1621 Promontory point on Tues Feb 9th. The shaft foundations have been excavated into competent bearing soil that meets the structural engineer’s requirements. Strata approved the drilled shaft foundation subgrade provided that loose soil greater than 1 inch in depth at the bottom of the shafts be removed prior to placing concrete. Since the 7 ft deep shafts are uncased, Strata also recommends the concrete be placed in the center of the shaft (via a backchute or a pump hose) to avoid sidewall soil sloughing during concrete placement.
