REMAINDER OF PERMIT AND ALL ATTACHMENTS REMAIN AS ORIGINALLY APPROVED. DRS Remodel a 2,640 sq. ft. portion of the 8,714 sq. ft. shell space created under BLD10-00902 for use by Integrated Design Lab as an office, testing & training facility per the reviewed plans. Compliance with building code for restroom and drinking fountain requirements are part of BLD10-01061 which creates common core area facilities. Work to include select interior demolition; perform structural modifications to portions of roof for new skylights and HVAC units; construction of 2-hour fire barrier walls around the open office / conference room to create a separate 2,118 sq. ft. fire area ( designated as fire area 1B on plans) containing an "A3" occupancy so a fire suppression system is not required. The fire barrier walls will also be a part of a required 1-hour fire rated common exit corridors that will serve this tenant space, existing tenants and future tenant spaces. All doors serving as part of the egress system from the "A3" assembly occupancy to the exit discharge shall be panic hardware if door hardware is provided. Modify electrical, mechanical, plumbing, interior finishes and millwork. Install new stairway at the end of and as part of the rated corridor system created under BLD10-01061 designated on plans as corridor 107 & stair 108. drs

Call from Bruce Poe, Modus Architects & Jerry, Contractor, Vertical construction. Contractor wants inspection by fire inspector for IDL but there is a hold on inspections due to the submittal of structural roof system upgrade next to new Concordia University that was allowed to be added to the open permit for IDL. The structural upgrade area is several hundred feet away from the IDL tenant space and the inspection for the tenant space will not be affected by inspections for a temporary occupancy while the required resubmittals for the structural upgrade are prepared and resubmitted. A permanent certificate of occupancy cannot be issued for IDL until the attached plan mod and all required work completed and approved by required inspectors. Permit counter working with contractor (Jerry) Vertical Construction to scheduel inspections.

I reviewed the original plan review requirements with him and told him I would e-mail a copy of mu second review to him as well as Cory. Cory - we understand that IDL understands the limitation of the occupant load to be 49 or less based on size of room and occupancy use category, "B", now desired, to alleviate code requirements that are applicable to an "A3" occupancy as original plans submitted indicate. The letter sholud be on U of I letterhead and signed by Mr. Wymelenberg for IDL and by responsible representative of U of I setting up and operating the classroom or IDL & U of I responsible parties could submit there specific own acknowledgement and signature but the permit could not be issued until both acceptable letters were received and approved.

Include the following:
The undersigned, representing Integrated Design Lab and University of Idaho - Section 105.4, Validity of Permit & Section 110.4 Revocation (of occupancy certificate).

Received e-mail from Cory Nelson indicating that the room would be less than 750 sq. ft. and using the occupant load factor for a classroom, 20 per Tbl 1004.1.1, the occupant load would be a maximum of 49 and then qualify as a "B" occupancy. The previous design submittal data had use an occupant load factor of 7 and the architect declared the tenant needed a minimum occupant load of 107.

Reviewed plan resubmittal from architect reducing the area of the classroom (109) to be less than 750 sq. ft. but with a continuing high occupant load of 107 required, siting section 303.1, exc. #1 to reclasify the room as a "B" occupancy. Noted code section indicates that if the classroom is accessory to another occupancy, i.e. not having the classroom would not effect the main use being for office. The classroom is necessary and appears in fact to be the primary use which the office supports. With an occupant load of 50 or greater, this remains and "A3" occupancy. E-mailed this interpretation as to occupancy use of classroom to Cory Nelson, Modus Arch.
