DRS Remodel changing occupancy from a single family dwelling into a commercial office or retail use per approved plans. Work to include select interior demolition, exterior opening modification at main door; construction of accessible ramp, landings & railings, modification to stairs for code compliance; interior walls to create one fully accessible restroom; and modification of electrical and plumbing. Call from Tom Arcoraci. Structural Building Inspector to verify the use of the basement. The stair rise & run do not meet code, the required headroom is not provided and there is not a landing on both sides of door. The basement had been previously finished in approx. 1988 without plans or permits. The basement is approved for use only for mechanical service to the building (furnace and hot water heater in basement). There is to be no other use or occupancy of the basement. The door providing access to the mechanical service (like a crawl space) was reversed to swing into the room instead of over the stairs. Tom will remind the owner & contractor of the limited function of the existing basement area.
