This structure is located in WUI zone A and requires a class A fire-rated roofing material, noncombustible siding products and one hour fire rated soffits with no openings. A letter from the applicant’s geotechnical engineer indicating that the footing sub-grade is acceptable must be approved by Public Works prior to scheduling a footing inspection. Fire sprinkler plans need to be resubmitted showing all changes in routing and fitting counts prior to covering by sheet rock. I spoke to Bruce the fitter, Tony Young and with Jerry with Petra about the issues but agreed that I would allow the installation of insulation, for sound proofing, above the piping. This insulation, it was agreed would be installed above the sprinkler piping and would not obstruct my view of the sprinkler piping for the future cover inspection.

I spoke with Jerry Frank the owner of this home about his Soffit/eve protection product. He wants to use a spray applied (Flame Stop 2) product rather than the approved 2 layers of type X sheetrock approved on his construction plans. I stated this product does not meet the 2009 IBC section 2303.2 as required by the W.U.I. section 4911. He stated he already paid the lumber yard to have the product applied and wants to further discuss with the Fire department. I called Romeo the deputy chief fire marshal and left a message to discuss this product and it's approval. Waiting for a returned telephone call.

I explained the requirements with him and suggested 3/4" Fire retardant treated plywood construction under his soffit finish material.
