Met with Mark Elliot, Paul Johnson, Bob Garrison & myself to review method for handling submitals for firestop assemblies that do not have a specific tested system in an approved listing directory, such as U.L. First a listed system shall try to be found. If none found then use a fire safety design engineer from the company proposing the fire stop system with information showing their engineered judgement for use of a similar tested system for use in the special case. A system from HILTI was presented for review using putty blocks around the barjoist penetrations. Jim Taite, Hilti Construction Chemicals, fire Protection Engineer, provide a signed copy of the engineering judgement to be used for firestopping the barjoist penetrations of fire rated walls. This is a one time approval for the penetrations of the two hour area separation wall proposed for separating the building based on discussions at project team meetings & building dept. The penetrating bar joist will also be fire sprayed with an approved product for two hour protection and all supporting structure will be protected for the two hour time frame by listed components.
