Description
To construct a two-hour Horizontal Exit to serve as a required second exit from the exercise/locker area without exiting through the basement storage areas. To construct a 510 sq.ft. locker room in the existing 11,862 sq. ft. basement per approved plans on file. Room to contain 1 fully accessible restroom with shower, 1 additional restroom, 1 additional shower and 109 lockers. Work to include noncombustible framing with firecode sheetrock for 1-hour protection of perimeter & interior nonbearing walls, suspended ceiling system and appropriate exit system from basement. Called Vince Johnson, architect, at ST. Al's. The occupant load for the basement will exceed 30 and most likely 50. This does require two safe ways out of the basement in a rated corridor or through a 2-hr. Horizontal Exit running North to South from floor to floor, that would separate the floor area into two areas and provide two required exists from each area, one through the horizontal exit and one through an adjoining room and then directly into the rated stair enclosure that will exit directly to the exterior. I told Vince that he needed to review the options of a rated corridor or horizontal exit with the hospital staff and provide plans indicating the method they want to use. Vince said he would get back with me shortly. He is at St. Al's since yesterday so he can review the qusetions in the filed with the hospital management staff.

Received call from Vince Johnson of Gerald R. Nichols Arch. concerning a fax communication he had sent me to review. I told him I would find the fax and review it in house and call him back tommorrow morning. The question remaining to be answered deals with the need for a rated corridor between the two stair enclosures based on the occupant load & uses within the basement for a staff & excercise room locker area and the exercise room plus existing storage areas.

Phone call from Dave Johnson to clarify questions. He will work at getting an asbuilt floor plan & use of areas for the basement and doing a code analysis and send copies of each to me for review. A corridor will be shown for construction if needed.

Phone call to Vince Johnson of Gerald Nochols & Assocs. concerning a full floor plan layout for the basement. Plan submitted shows only the West end layout. The plan also refers to an existing 680 s.f. area as a locker room. This area was permitted in August of 1994 as an excercise room and support area. It was noted on the plan review and response from architect of record that future remodel or additions in the basement area would require the construction of a one hour corridor in the basement between the two required exits. Vince Johnson was on vacation at this time so my call was taken by Dave Johnson. I explained the situation to him and requested a full basement floor plan with use of all areas defined for purpose of determining occupancy classification and occupant load of basement.
