Description	To install a new set of opposite-swing double doors across the existing rated, exit corridor, as additional security for the "Nursery Unit". The doors SHALL maintain the required corridor & exit width for an "I1.1" occupancy use. The security door system SHALL comply with all the requirements of Section 1003.3.1.10, 1997 UBC, for "SPECIAL EGRESS-CONTROL DEVICES". The use of this device has been approved as an alternate method for use in a Group I, Division 1.1 occupancy based on the current NFPA 101 Standard. Work to include modification to walls, doors, electrical, plumbing, mechanical & fire supression system as necessary to install the doors in the shown location. Met with Gregg Ostrow to recieve plans for review to see if they would qualify for a quick permit process. The plans were accepted.

Call from Gregg Ostrow, SLRMC Project Architect, to review course open to provide additional security for the Nursery / maternity unit onthe 8th floor, East Wing of SLRMC, in light of recent publicity on ease of obtaining entrance to the existing area by hospital patrons. The only option available appears to be special egress controll devices using time delay hardware for standard egress that is deactivated when the circumstances listed in Section 1003.1.10 for I-2 occupancies. This method has in the past been accepted as an alternate allowed for use in an I1.1 occupancy under the use of the NFPA 101 as a National Standard alternate method to the building code. I told Gregg to provide me with a small detail of the proposal and I would take it to Floyd Varley for confirmation of acce[tability by the fire department.
