(THE IDANHA HOTEL) This building is fire sprinklered per 1994 UCBC provisions to allow it to be too tall and too big. To convert floors 2 through 6 of a former hotel to apartment units (53 renovated units). Work is to include a new beam and columns to support the 2nd floor, additional floor joists at the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors, a new 2-hr stair enclosure, a fire alarm system, seismic upgrade, a renovated fire sprinkler system, two apartments accessible to the disabled, two street level entrance canopies, a new built up roof covering, and exterior wall refurbishing all per approved drawings, engineering, and plan review conditions on file. Rotten or damaged joists shall be repaired or replaced. New work shall comply with Type III-1hr provisions. The fire sprinker system shall comply with NFPA 13-1996 as regulated by the Fire Department. This permit does not establish a Certificate of Occupancy for any tenant in the basement or on the first floor. There were 2-3 strobes that were hanging and were repaired on the spot by Brett. I asked Brett about the alarm on the 5th floor and he said an occupant burnt something on the stove and the room detector activated and that signal indicated a supervisory at the FACP. The panel was clear upon my arrival indicating no troubles or alarms.

There are still some touch up work to be done: windows on the north side, paint touch up on the east wall, and window touch up on the south and westside. Ken Howell, ###-####, called me regarding reducing their cash bond. I agreed that there is about $1,000 of work to do. There still is the the issue of the canopies, but that is an art project under Karen Bubb, ###-####, control. I spoke with her and she said that there is no need for use to retain money for the art project. Therefore, it is OK to reduce the cash bond to $1,000.00.

Request from Ken ###-####, ext 27 and Barry ext 25, for approval, or at least, reduction of their bond. Refer DRH's 00-00218 & 00-00235. I conducted an inspection and found:

8 unpainted windows on the north side, plus on window missing entirely. The surface of the building looks unfinished and in need of a paint job.

East side paint is peeling and on the sixth floor there is a fire escape that goes to the roof of the extension that is shown as being removed on the plans.

South side shows a canopy missing, a window on the 2nd floor missing, and some of the turret metal accents show dent damage.

West side shows missing canopy.

Canopies are being manufactored in New York and delivery is at least 30 days away.
