Checked to verify that proposed assembly is listed in U.L. Roofing Dir. Verify with contractor that the system proposed has to be installed over an existing rated system and that he is responsible to provide an analysis from a qualified person that the existing roof structure will carry the additional loading and other requirements of Appendix Ch. 15, Section 11515.1. He has an architect that reviewed the structure and will provide the written notice to the inspector.
Telephone call  10/19/1999 PEND
Called Roman Roofing to get clarification on the roof assembly being installed over existing roof system and this being compatible with the proposed new assembly.
Meeting  10/19/1999 PEND
Met with Frank Roman to review which roofing assemblies are proposed for new and overlay roof areas. Frank stated that the roofs sloped in two directions and that crickets & new roof & overflow drains are being installed on the fron half of this project as part of this permit. Frank to get me a roof plan and a new value estimate for the project.
Telephone call  10/19/1999 PEND
Talked with Jim Glancey, architect, to discuss the different roofing assemblies proposed and the variuos roof systems they would work on. I faxed him copies of listed systems from 1999 U.L. Roof Dir. for his use in discussing w/ Frank Roman. I explained the need for a letter per section 1515.1 of appendix ch. 15 to allow overlays on existing roof covering. Jim stated that there were possibly up tp three overlays already in place and that adding this new assembly would not add to the weight as the gravel was being removed. I told Jim that if the gravel was part of the "Class A" roof assembly proposed to be overlaid, the gravel would have to remain in place to keep the same fire-retardant rating. Jim will review with Frank Roman and then get back with me.
Plan resubmittals requested  10/19/1999 PEND
In meeting with Frank Roman, I ask him if he had plans showing the location of crickets for drainage and installation locations for roof drains & overflow drains. Frank said Jim Glancey had drawn some and he would bring me a set. I ask him for two sets, one for our records and one to go to job with permit for inspectors use.
