Description
CATHEDRAL OF THE ROCKIES - To install a new alarm system in an existing building in conjunction with a new addition and TI work. The alarm system will include a manual system, partial area smoke detection, duct detectors for smoke damper release and HVAC air handler shut down, elevator recall, monitoring of the fire sprinkler system, complete a/v alarm annunciation and offsite alarm monitoring. The Building permit (BLD00-03729) is to demolish the administration wing of an existing church (Southeast corner) and construct a 13,500 square foot basement, 17,000 square foot first floor, and 3,250 square foot 2nd floor in its place. Within existing adjacent areas a 1-hr stairway and 2,400 square foot second floor are being constructed. Work is to include concrete footings and foundations, concrete floors, 4-hr area separation walls, a fire sprinkler system, and a fire alarm system. Fire sprinklers are used to substitute for 1-hr fire resistive construction.

NOTE to Fire Inspector: No voice alarm system is required because the largest A2.1 occupancy load is 982 in the new A1 Sanctuary (non-fixed seating, load capacity is to be posted); the next largest A2.1 load is 795 in the existing A2 Sanctuary (fixed seating, posting not required).

I witnessed the testing of the fire alarm in the west basement, phase three one the plans. Contractor stated that it is actually phase 4. All devices worked except for the horn in the mechanical room. The test included the tripping of the dry system for the fellowship hall. Trip time was only about 10 seconds. This area is OK to occupy
