Call from Gail Bogel, rep for prop owner, conf'd in Rob Ahten, Protex, re system upgrades required by PDS Fire Inspector. They have estimate to do upgrades and to replace panel but do not want to incur cost of a complete system upgrade at time of panel replacement. Advised them to write Dave Miller to requrest delayed upgrade agreement and address all deficiences, with timetable for completeion. Subsequently learned from inspectors that there are three, possibly four, FAC panels in this mall which reportedly is constructed as one building. Immediately called back Gail Bogel, conferenced with Steven Phillips, architect; advised them of additional FAC panels which would have to be included in the panel replacement system design. Architect didn't want to replace those at time of new panel installation. I strongly advised them to connect all existing initiating devices to the single new panel at time of panel replacement, to improve chances of FD approval of a programmed upgrade proposal; suggested there is no Listed way to interconnect the panels to operate as a single sytem as required by 72, and FD not likely to agree to continuing to accept 3 or 4 panels in single building. Advised to be sure to address this issue in letter to Dave Miller.
