Overhead sprinkler piping was inspected. Offices, riser and FDC not inspected. I found many sprinkler uprights covered with tape, one upright bent, earthquake bracing was missing and retaining straps missing from one side of the trapeze hangers. See approved plans for specific locations. Underground flush was ok and entry was made under FIR04-00384. 9/29/2004 11:10:41 AM

Jeff, I am looking at this resubmittal and I am taking issue with the following items which will require addressing prior to letting this permit fly full approval.
1. Plan information appears to be lacking since Fire Department Connections is not on the street side of the building, immediately discernible, fully visible and recognizable from the street or nearest point of fire department apparatus accessibility. Provide correction providing this requirement. (BMC 7-01-61, IFC 912.2.2.1, IFC 508.5.4, 903.3.7, 912, NFPA 13:8.16.2.4.6, 7.7.2.3, 8.16.2.4.6)
Your response was basically to meet code in the future? You will have get approval from Dave Miller of proposed "future" relocation of FDC to street side of the building or provide it under this permitted scope of work.
2. The designer has made no consideration in addressing the future smoke heat vent locations and type proposed addressed in the building permit (BLD04-00558) meeting IFC 2306.7. Fire sprinkler head location and spacing shall be designed for future building requirements, since the framing (only) is being installed under this shell permit. Fire sprinkler heads located under "drop" out smoke/heat vents will not be accepted. Verify the type of smoke heat vents proposing to install in the future or verify heads will not be installed beneath. (IFC 105.4.1)
Your addressing of this issues indicates the smoke/heat framing is flush with the deck. This does not address the issue of future use incorporating "shrink" or "drop" out vents which will affect fire sprinkler operations if heads are located beneath. The plan does not show where these frames will be installed (unless it's in the 4 circles on the floor plan) and if so, it would appear fir sprinkler will be affected? Future relocating will be required incorporating respacing and revised calculation approval! You will have to provide a letter from the Architect indicating that no "shrink" or "drop" out smoke heat vents will be installed and if they are, it is acceptable to incorporate a new permitted design for fire sprinklers modifications, calculations with the future T.I./s permits.
3. Provide engineered trapeze hangers supporting east and west cross mains on the plans. (IFC 105.4.1)
You provided a trapeze supported span size but did not provide a complete or correct detail. The trapeze clevis/ring hanger supporting the rod and cross main is not identified as being secured from slippage? The 9.1.1.6.7 and 9.1.1.7.8 addresses using bolts not hangers, which would prevent side to side slippage. You did not address the supported, ring, strap, or clevis hangers on the trapeze as required to be the same size corresponding to the suspended pipe supporting! You need to fax a correct detail incorporating minimum installation code so the installer/s will comply. (NFPA 13:9.1.1.6.5, 9.1.1.6.5)

3. Designer is using a pendant SIN number on and upright head in the Sprinkler Head Legend, FP-2. (IFC 105.4.1)
4. Plans are incomplete. Provide type of fitting incorporating on the lines, riser, mains, etc. (IFC 105.4.1, NFPA 13:14.1.3(21)
5. Plans are incomplete. Provide correct dimensioning of riser which will include pipe sizes. (IFC 105.4.1, NFPA 13:14.1.3(19)
6. Calculations are incomplete for proposed (future) inrack sprinklers demand requirements in addition to the roof system. Provide calculations incorporating a minimum proposed design for inrack sprinklers, which will verify a true demand the designer is actually designing for. (IFC 105.4.1)
7. Provide and show on the plans the required drain for the east side cross main. (IFC 105.4.1, 102.7, NFPA 13:8.15.2.5)
8. Provide engineered trapeze hangers supporting east and west cross mains on the plans. (IFC 105.4.1)
