a. The alternative submitted in BLD04-01022 does not match the design alternative used for BLD99-01573, since the original was approved for a horizontal application and this is for a vertical application. (IFC 105.4) NOTE: No fire permit was not applied for or issued on the original alternative fire protection design, of which was required by City ordinance that took effect, January 1, 1999!

b. Design submitted does not address injection rate flows; relative to airflow which shall be match this project permitting. (IFC 105.3.7, 901.2)

c. This related building scope of work indicates the duct to be continuously wrapped with fire-resistive rated #M Firemaster duct wrap? The design alternative (request) letter dated August 5, 1999 indicates this fire sprinkler alternative is proposed for the elimination of the ducting wrap downstream (of the required 2 hour barrier assembly). The IBC Plan reviewer indicates that the wrap shall be installed. With this requirement, no information was provided on how that separation will be maintained with the required inspection openings to inspect the fire sprinkler heads. (IFC 105.3.7, 901.2, NFPA 13:7.9.12)

d. Building data submittals indicate the incorporation of the FlexHead© system. Provide manufacturers data submittals if incorporating a FlexHead© or similar type system to these ducts as addressed in the related building submittal and original alternative package. Include corrosion prevention requirements where corrosive atmospheres exist, and the duct sprinklers pipe and pipe fittings as being manufactured and installed with corrosion-resistant materials or coated with approved materials. (NFPA 13:3.6.4.1 [definition], 6.2.6.1, 318:4.1.2.6.5 [required])

e. The fire sprinkler head submitted does not meet the approved characteristics as addressed in the original approved alternative package. (Reference item "a" above)

f. Provide a (required) control valve (NFPA 318:4.1.2.6.3) supplying these in-duct heads and provide valve monitoring and supervision (IFC 903.4).

g. This duct quench system will require approved drainage. Provide corrected documents addressing this requirement. (IFC 105.3.7, NFPA 318:4.1.2.6.4*, A.4.1.2.6.4)
