Sprinkler Plan Check1/3/2005 1/6/2005 PART
DetailsBill Alexander
1. Plans are denied. Fire sprinkler listed use is outside the design allowed since storage is less than 36" of the fire sprinkler deflector. If dropping the storage to within 36" and 48", minimum required pressure (for these heads) will be 22-psi! Please reference the head listing data. Resubmit an approved design meeting minimum requirements.
January 6, 2005 - Designer is maintaining the listed use incorporating the Tyco Series "EC-25", SSP, 25.2 K-factor, (1"), TY9128 sprinklers. Hence, this system is not designed for a MAXIMUM allowable storage height, since scaling the drawings (no elevation dimensions provided on the building section view), appears to be 24' +- to the bottom of the roof support trusses? If the designer (with support of the building owner) requests to continue to incorporate this system design limitations, then approval will be restricted and the implementation of a PERMANENT marking system shall be employed throughout of this facility. Since no rule or wording has been officially adopted for marking systems, it shall be approved prior to installation, by the Fire Chief. (IFC 102.7)

2. Designer shall correlate all different designs to match the actual design providing and to be approved on all related plans and documents for consistency and future reference. (BMC 7-01-50 revised paragraph 901.2, BMC 7-01-53 new paragraph 903.1.3, IFC 105.4.2)
January 6, 2005 - Addressed as corrected, with exception found on plan FP1 of 2 "Fire Sprinkler System Design Criteria," which does not correlate with calculations provided? Correct and resubmit.

3. Backflow prevention is not provided with required forward flow components/provisions. Provide forward flow test piping and appurtenance in accordance with NFPA 13:8.16.4.6.1*. Provide the size outlet matching the required pipe size verifying in the forward flow calculations. (BMC 7-01-50 revised paragraph 901.2, BMC 7-01-53 new paragraph 903.1.3, IFC 105.4.2)
January 6, 2005 - Central Maintenance Kit (Figure 590F) is unacceptable since backflow test would then require putting the entire system out of service with a physical shutdown and draining. This test is not a service or repair process, but a test procedure. Revise and resubmit a design which will incorporate a forward flow test which will not remove this system from service.

January 6, 2005 - Added Review Comments/Requirements Relating To This Resubmittal:
4. All original submittals had been returned (excluding two) and those have been used for UG approval only, for City and ISRB records. Resubmit individual materials data sheets incorporating in this facility. These include, but may not be limited to:
a. Water supply certificate,
b. Manufacturer's fire sprinkler data information of all fire sprinkler heads incorporating in this structure, with each one specifically identified (if more than one choice is addressed),
c. Riser manifold and associated devices,
d. Seismic bracing calculations,
e. Backflow prevention device and appurtenance,
f. Wall P.I.,
g. FDC,
h. Outside alarm device,
i. Additional system control valves, etc.
