Sprinkler Plan Check1/27/2005 1/31/2005 PART
DetailsBill Alexander
1. This facility requires a NFPA 13D (Modified) system. (Reference specific subdivisions requirements as addressed in the Building Permit and this reviews scope of work). Provide a revised plan that includes barrier protection along the walls where the garage is attached to the residential living spaces. (IFC 104.9, 105.4.2, 901.2, A.8.6.4)

2. Living room sprinkler spacing is overspaced per design verified. Revise and resubmit. (BMC 7-01-50, IFC 901.2, IFC 105.4.2)

3. Riser is protected with a pendant sprinkler per CPVC listing requirements, but the sprinkler head will not be the Tyco Series LFII sprinkler addressed in the legend unless riser detail as provided is incorrect. Piping shown does not show where it starts concealment, etc. Provide plans and data submittals that match system installation throughout for installation code verification. (BMC 7-01-50, IFC 901.2, IFC 105.4.2)

4. Plans provided show no terrain elevation changes. This permit approval is based on a design with the supply entering this facility on a level or downhill terrain only. Water supplied uphill will require corrected plans and revised calculations for elevation loss pressures. (BMC 7-01-50, IFC 901.2, IFC 105.4.2)

5. Calculations are incorrect. Include pipe, fittings, and devices such as valves, meters, flow switches in pipes 2 in. or less in size, and strainers, and calculate elevation changes that affect the sprinkler discharge. Provide revised calculations that include the flow switch. (NFPA 13:14.4.4.5, 14.1.3[34])

6. Plans are incomplete, reference 2nd level restroom and 1st floor powder room/closet entry? Restrooms with toilet and/or shower stalls must be separated by a minimum 8" lintel to allow for the restroom exception. Address this issue on the plans or provide protection as required. (BMC 7-01-50, IFC 901.2, IFC 105.4.2 NFPA 13:14.3.3*, 14.1.3[34])

7. Plans are incomplete. Information not defined. Residential sprinklers must be positioned with sufficient distance away from heat sources that include fireplaces, stoves, kitchen ranges, wall ovens, furnace's and associated flues ducts and light fixtures (only one item (fireplace) was positively identified on the plans). Verify and address these items underlined above on the plans which apply and verify the distance allowance for each as established in NFPA 13R:6.6.7.1.5.3 for possible premature operation. (BMC 7-01-50, IFC 901.2, IFC 105.4.2, 105.4.1 and 901.2)

8. Backflow preventer pressure loss information used in calculations is low per the manufacturer's data submittal graph. Also backflow exceeds the manufacturer's maximum system flow rate listing for its size. Revise and resubmit. (BMC 7-01-50, IFC 901.2, IFC 105.4.2)

9. A domestic "Corp Stop" valve was not included in the calcs from "SRC" to the water meter. Revise and resubmit. (BMC 7-01-50, IFC 901.2, IFC 105.4.2)

10. Provide alarm information. Reference the BMC 7-01-57, 903.3.1.3.1.

11. Provide a domestic control connected upstream of the fire sprinkler take-off, which shall be included in the calcs, (no exceptions). (NFPA 13D:A.6.2[a], A.6.3[a] BMC 7-01-50, IFC 901.2, IFC 105.4.2).
