BLEDSOE GROUP * This is limited scope of work fire permit. To remove and upgrade the fire sprinkler system protection in the Prep and Spray paint room. Also to install sprinklers (6) under existing overhead doors and add tamper switches to two existing antifreeze system control valves. Other work related in the building permit, but not addressed in this fire protection permit is "remodel an existing cabinet shop by upgrading requirements to the dust collection system. This building is fully fire sprinklered for area. This fire protection work shall comply with the IFC 2003 and the permit review comments; each regulated by the Fire Chief. The review comments, permit and fire "Inspection Card" are required to be on site as a condition of this work, to provide witness of compliance verification of minimum code. This permit is attached to BLD04-02877.

1. Standard sprinklers or automatic spray nozzles shall be so located as to provide for the protection of exhaust ducts, hood exhaust duct collars, and hood exhaust plenum chambers. Each hood exhaust duct collar shall have one sprinkler or automatic spray nozzle located 1" minimum to 12" maximum above the point of duct collar connection in the hood plenum. Horizontal exhaust ducts shall have sprinklers or automatic spray nozzle devices located on 10'-0" centers beginning no more than 5'-0" from the duct entrance. Modify spacing/layout/location. Add a sprinkler head to within 1" to 12" of the exhaust plenum chamber. (NFPA 13-7.9.3.3, 7.9.4.1, 7.9.2.1)
2. The permit scope of work does not address and work relating to the compressor room? Provide plans that address protecting this addition. BMC 7-01-50-IFC 901.2, 105.4.2)
3. Sprinklers or automatic spray nozzles being used in duct, duct collar, and plenum areas shall have orifice with K-factors not less than 1.4 and not more than 5.6. Modify sprinkler heads in the ducts to conform to this paragraph. (NFPA 13-7.9.6.3)
4. Access shall be provided to all sprinklers or automatic spray nozzles for examination and replacement. Provide service openings for fire sprinkler head examination which shall meet the minimum requirements of IMC for duct access penetrations. NOTE: Duct supports shall be designed to carry the weight of the duct system itself, plus the anticipated weight of any residues. If sprinkler protection is provided inside the duct system, then the duct supports also shall be designed to carry the anticipated weight of any accumulation of sprinkler discharge. (NFPA 33-7.8.1, 7.9.7)
5. The sprinklers for each spray area and mixing room shall be controlled by a separate, accessible, listed indicating valve. Sprinkler systems in stacks or ducts shall be automatic and of a type not subject to freezing. Fire sprinkler control valve handles must be installed between two (2'-0") and five (5'-0") feet above finished grade. (IFC 102.7, NFPA 33-9.4.5, NFPA 13-13.4.2.1*)
6. Address on the plans that the fire sprinklers shall be covered by cellophane bags having a thickness of 0.08 mm (0.003 in.) or less or by thin paper bags. These coverings shall be replaced frequently so that heavy deposits of residue do not accumulate. (NFPA 33-9.4.7.1, 13-6.2.6.4.2, 13.4.2.2)
