AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF HEALTH TECH-NURSING PROGRAM * To add and relocate existing fire sprinklers for the remodel of a 3,590-ft/2 area of classroom and office space on the first floor within the existing structure. Fire sprinkler work is related to suspended ceiling, non-bearing partitions to create two class rooms, lab and offices. Fire sprinkler work associated with a new structural roof support beam and HVAC unit is not approved under this permit. This building is fully fire sprinklered with sprinklers used for area. This fire protection work shall comply with the IFC 2003 and the permit review comments; each regulated by the Fire Chief. The review comments, permit and fire "Inspection Card" are required to be on site as a condition of this work, to provide witness of compliance verification of minimum code. Several room identifications in this permit area addressed as Lab and Storage. Designer did not address adequate information relating to what kind of lab and what kind of storage is associated in this permit. Laboratory units are classified as Class A (High Fire Hazard), Class B (Moderate Fire Hazard), Class C (Low Fire Hazard), or Class D (Minimal Fire Hazard), according to the quantities of flammable and combustible liquids specified in NFPA 45 Table 2.2.1(a) and Table 2.2.1(b). (See NFPA 45, Appendix D for further information on laboratory unit fire hazard classification.)

When an automatic sprinkler system is installed, depending on the construction of the building, the hazard class of the laboratory unit, the construction of the laboratory unit enclosure, and the area of the laboratory unit, shall be protected in accordance with the following:
(a) Automatic sprinkler system protection for Class A and Class B laboratories shall be in accordance with NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, for Ordinary Hazard (Group 2) occupancies.
(b) Automatic sprinkler system protection for Class C and Class D laboratories shall be in accordance with NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, for Ordinary Hazard (Group 1) occupancies.

Provide clarification of laboratory and storage in this permit and verify correct protection meeting the same through resubmittals. (NFPA 13-13.8, 45-4.2.1.1, BMC 7-01-50 IFC 901.2, IFC 105.2.1, 105.4.2)
