July 7, 2006 - Provided the Followinbg Information
iii. Provide revised hydraulic calculations for standpipe design incorporating Stair #3 and #4, (750 gpm combined flows) operating with the "Break Tank" supply design required.

iv. Resubmit complete hydraulic calcs of all most remote/demanding areas incorporating only the Break-Tank suction design. Include corrected installation plans incorporating all installation modifications with piping, etc.

v. This system incorporates a 1000 gpm pump at 150 psi pressure. 120% churn pressure will produce 180 psi on the system. Maximum allowed pressure allowed on this system (as installed) will be 175 psi. Provide clarification as to where the 5 psi will relieve/discharge.

vi. Provide setting of the system PRV valve and include "Q" water volume discharge.

vii. Provide the fire pump and jockey pressure settings on the plans incorporating this systems design.

viii. Leak detection is to be provided in the elevator pits in lieu of leak containment around the tank. Fire alarm contractor is not aware of this responsibility as indicated in April 7, 2006 response. This has also not been included on any plans. This requirement will be verified under the Final Fire Alarm Plan Review with testing provided prior to final system acceptance.

A. Obtain and submit approval incorporating (wet) stamped plan/s and reviewing comment letter from an approved, current, registered certified Fire Protection Engineer, of a design meeting the minimum requirements in regard to the associated current adopted NFPA 13, 20, 22 and 72 pamphlets, with approval of the secondary water supply "tank" that includes, (but may not be limited to) associated sizing's, locations, fire pump connection/s, fill line/s, overflow and associated (listed) manufacturer's controls, sensing and related devices and appurtenances being incorporated in the required automatic secondary water supply system in this facility.
February 10, 2006 - Provided revised tank and piping plans. Several issues found under this submittal which need addressed, verified and corrected:
i) Possible pump cavitation problem relating to the upper tank draw down level equal to the "0" head level of the lower tank allowing suction (entrance) of air being drawn into the pump suction line. Provide a design which will verify and prevent possible pump cavitation and failure.
February 24, 2006 - Designers revised plan include a "P" trap on the suction line for the 2nd (upper) tank. There is no design verification data provided to address the draft characteristics of each tank, but it would appear the combined tank draw down would draft air since the "P" trap is still above the level of the tank floor (where the level of the required draw down is designed for). This would still enable the suction (entrance) of air in the suction piping and thus create fire booster pump cavitation. Revise and resubmit corrected drawings.

Today's inspection was for the 1st floor shell wet system at the north and east perimeter areas for future TI spaces and the start of the 24 hr. air test for 2nd floor dry system, one branch line is overspaced at the south end from a wall as noted on plans, heads in the pump room must be properly spaced for 130ft/2, changes in branch line routing at the electrical room to be shown on resubmittals with all other field changes on this floor, two TI spaces facing Broad St. have been completed prior to shell inspection at these locations, discussed hydro testing requirements for the first floor partial areas, began the 24 hr. air test of the 2nd floor dry system at 10:30 @ 43psi.

Secondary Water Supply
1. This re-modified secondary water supply system for the new 235,965-ft/2, eleven story high rise structure is currently not a standard secondary water storage holding system. Under IFC 104.7.2, this reviewing authority shall require the following minimum requirements:
Provide a design which will verify and prevent possible pump cavitation and failure.

ii) The tank fill lines have butterfly separation valves located on the discharge sides of the "Cla-Val" valves? It would be wise to relocate these "butterfly" valves to the supply sides of these valves for separate isolation of the same. This will accommodate individual deactivation instead of both if either required repair.

B. Any structural related issues possibly affected by the F.P.E.'s reviewing design (which have not been incorporated in these resubmitted structural tank plans/documents), shall be fully coordinated and under the full responsibility of DEVCON and it's Architect for the same.
February 10, 2006 - Not addressed under this permit submittal. The wall extensions, tank load of one over the other, pipe penetrations, modification of tank floor, etc., will require written approval verification by an approved structural engineer by prior to IFC final tank approval.
