Plan correction/resubmittal required
ITEM #32. Plan FP-6. An enclosed "canopy" (addressed as such by the designer on Plan FP-6) with one east face opening, located on the 2nd floor, is referenced with no protection incorporating 8.14.7.2, a "Canopy" sprinkler exemption: "Sprinklers shall be permitted to be omitted where the canopy or roof is of noncombustible or limited combustible construction." Per the Building Code, IBC 202 Canopy definition is: "An architectural projection that provides weather protection, identity or decoration and is supported by the building to which it is attached and at the outer end by not less than on stanchion. A canopy is comprised of a rigid structure over which a covering is attached." The area in questions does not apply for this exemption. This facility requires full fire sprinkler protection of which this area is part of part of and will require fire sprinkler protection. Revise and resubmit fire sprinkler protection plans meeting full sprinkler protection.
February 7, 2006 - Designer provided a personal letter from "Gary Christensen" (The Christensen Corporation), of which the response does not address an allowable code exemption for the same. Provide fire sprinkler protection and resubmit for approval.
