To provide a required manual fire alarm system in an existing building (per the building permit, these two buildings will now be consider as one). The required manual fire alarm system includes HVAC shutdown, cooking hood monitoring, elevator recall/shutdown and notification throughout. System smoke detection is required in the R-1 (boarding house) corridors along with required single-station smoke detectors in the rooms. One room is required to be ADA compliant.
FIR05-00595 is associated with building permit (BLD 05-00458) which is to convert an existing 6,027 square foot building (2 story with basement) into a restaurant / bar occupancy and to construct a 3,024 square foot addition. Work is to include 6 restrooms accessible to the disabled, an elevator, exterior masonry walls, concrete footings, concrete foundations, stairways, millwork, interior nonbearing walls, interior concrete footings, wood beams, steel beams, wood columns, steel columns, a seismic upgrade, new roof insulation and coverings, and interior finishes. The work shall comply with the approved drawings, structural engineering, and all applicable codes. The fire sprinkler system shall comply with 2002 NFPA 13 as regulated by the Fire Department. (LEKU ONA) This building is fire sprinklered for area increase; story increase; to allow the basement to be unenclosed; to allow corridors to be nonrated; and to allow the basement, 1st story, and 2nd story to be open to each other.
FIR05-00618 is associated with building permit (BLD 05-00011) which is to convert an existing historic building to a boarding house (bed & breakfast). This conversion is regulated by the 1994 Uniform Code for Building Conservation (UCBC). A permit for interior demolition (BLD04-02858) was issued on December 9, 2004. Work is to include 5 sleeping units (1 of which is required to be an "accessible sleeping unit"), interior nonbearing walls, new columns, new beams, gyp-crete floor topping, and finishes all per the approved drawings, engineering, and the plan review report on file.
