Sprinkler inspection was for main and branchline rough-in only. No piping in the stairwells between columns 1-2 and 10-11 has not been installed or inspected yet. Piping for the most part is ok. The deficiencies have been marked on the city approved plans. The deficiencies include missing retaining straps, overspaced earthquaking, on the first floor riser nipples feeding branchlines where the plans shown supplies from the crosses and on the third floor all of the pipe hangers are attached to the bottom of the open web steel trusses (need engineers approval)

I discussed the location of the exisitng FDC with Dave Hanneman and he is agreeable to leaving the FDC in its existing position. The requirement to relocate it will be deleted from the Fire Sprinkler permit review at the time of our next plan review after the resubmitted plans are received addressing the other required resubmittal items.

Corrections/information required:
1. All changes must be clouded and referenced by a revision number.
2. Either provide accessibility to the Standpipe Control Valve or obtain written permission from the Fire Marshal that the location is acceptable. If accessible proper identifying signage will be required meeting requirements of 6.7.4 and 8.15.1.1.8. (NFPA 13-8.15.1.1.7)
3. Fire Department Connection location is located where it is unprotected from possible exposing fire (the New Structure). Revise by relocating to the front of the structure, facing the street or provide approval from Dave Hannemen @: ###-#### of acceptance for the location as providing. (NFPA 13-7.7.2.3, IFC 903.3.7, 9012.2)
4. Address the existing riser in more detail which shows or provides piping provisions for forward flow testing flushing. (NFPA 13-8.16.4.6.1*, 14.1.3 [29], 16.2.5.1)
5. Provide identification of area near Women's Bathroom #126, (NFPA 13-14.1.3[9])
6. Revised standpipe calcs will be required which includes the added connection to the domestic supply, for the (required) sign which must be placed at the combination standpipe/system connection (wherever it will be), showing the pressure required at the inlets to deliver the 250 gpm @ 100 psi. (NFPA 14-6.3.5.2.2, NFPA 13-8.16.2.4.7.2, 8.16.2.4.7.3)
February 23, 2006 - Women's Bathroom #126 was not addressed.

1. Building Permit BLD05-02015, IFC review required Standpipe System to be installed in the North Stair Well, since that is the end of the building where IFC 905.3.1 (elevation) requires it. Reference IFC building review comments Item #1, (which was corrected on the plans by the architect, A. Erstad. Revise design and resubmit.
2. A separate combination standpipe-sprinkler OR separated standpipe system and sprinkler addition will be required in this facility to facilitate the isolation required for each side. The recommended installation is to have separate standpipe system. Revise and resubmit. (BMC 7-01-50-IFC 901.2, IFC 105.4.2)
3. Head spacing on the plans exceed calculation head spacing verified. Reference Shipping Receiving E-103 and other areas in this facility. Protection area of coverage is determined per 8.5.2 and 8.6.2, (please read). You may revise spacing/calculations to correlate or modify plans. NOTE: Calculations which increase spacing without verifying the increase in friction loss for added pipe and fittings is unacceptable unless the plans and installation do no change at all (now or in the future) and verification will only be allowed to the to the walls. Plans and calculations must correlate or be addressed on the plans as to why they do not. (BMC 7-01-50-IFC 901.2, IFC 105.4.2, NFPA 13-14.1.3 [34]).
4. Provide clarification/details which includes the system risers express drain size and where and how it will exit the building. Drain valves and piping, located at the lowest point of the standpipe piping downstream of the isolation valve, shall be arranged to discharge water at an approved location. Provide detail and locations where required. (BMC 7-01-50-IFC 901.2, IFC 105.4.2, NFPA 14:7.12.2.1)
6. Provide wall construction information of penetrations with 2-½" or larger pipe, specifically if walls that are concrete or masonry. Include seismic design requirements for flexible pipe couplings where individual sections of piping 2½" or larger pass through addressing requirements of 9.3.2.3(3). Or indicate on the plans the correct clearance required as addressed in 9.3.4.2 (2" clearance for 2-½" through 3-½" pipe and 4" clearance for 4" and larger pipe) or sleeved in accordance with requirements of 9.3.4.3. Frangible constructed walls that require no fire resistive rating do not require clearances or flexible coupling (within 1'-0" of each side of the wall). (NFPA 13-9.3.2*, 9.3.3*, A.9.3.3, A.9.3.2, 14.1.3 (21)
7. Does this addition require a Seismic Separation Assembly? Seismic separation assemblies with flexible fittings shall be installed where sprinkler piping, regardless of size, crosses building seismic separation joints above ground level. Verify and address on the plans. (NFPA 13-9.3.3*)
8. Indicate on the plans that the R.P. backflow is, or shall be tampered. (IFC 105.4.2, 901.2)
9. Show the existing riser in more detail which show or provide piping provisions for forward flow testing flushing. (NFPA 13-8.16.4.6.1*, 14.1.3 [29], 16.2.5.1)
10. Provide identification of any small enclosures, rooms or areas in this addition which are not sprinklered. Area/s near Women's Bathroom #126, Utility E-321, etc. (NFPA 13-14.1.3[9])
