Description
(ADA COUNTY JUSTICE CENTER) This building is to be fully fire sprinklered for area increase and exit corridor fire rating reduction. This permit is to install the 6" underground supply and two wet, overhead OH-2 and Light Hazard Occupancy systems in an existing 50,900 ft/2 building for a new office and storage tenant. The entire basement consisting of 25,500-ft/2 will be sprinklered. The first floor also requires full fire sprinkler protection. Area reduction protection reduction has been requested to sprinkler only 18,080-ft/2 with 7,320-ft/2 of the 1st floor to be unprotected between grid lines "A" thru "F" and "1" thru "7". This building is to be fully fire sprinklered, until an approved agreement is on record/file with the Fire Department. The fire sprinkler system work shall comply with the IFC 2003, the attached review comments/conditions, as regulated by the Fire Chief. The review comments/conditions, permit and fire "Inspection Card" are required to be on site as a condition of this work, to provide witness of compliance verification of minimum code. Site work including parking was permitted under permit BLD05-02914. Interior demolition was done under permit BLD05-03470. This fire sprinkler scope of work is attached to BLD05-03413.

Need to provide a pressure relief valve for the grid system in the basement per NFPA 13, provide head cages at the exposed upright heads under stairs, one room marked "closet B108" in the basement is missing sprinkler coverage, provide as-builts reflecting actual field install at the first floor lobby where drop ceilings have been deleted and wall layouts changed as previously requested, need to provide playpipe to enable accurate testing of forward flow through the FDC- see review comments. Inspection concluded at this time due to the number of correction items noted as final field inspection is not designed for punch list or quality control purposes on behalf of the contractor.

This inspection was performed on friday afternoon 6/16. Overhead rough-in is acceptable to cover at the drop ceiling areas on the 1st floor. Items needing addressed include one overspaced head in the linen room, one painted head in a restroom, one head blocked by a surface mounted light in the janitors closet, need to provide plans reflecting actual field installation at the lobby area where the drop ceilings were deleted in lieu of OTS. The resubmitted plans are still only issued in a PARTIAL status due to hydraulic calculations per note #3-revise and resubmit for final approval.

1. Provide fire protection plans including full fire sprinkler protection throughout this facility or an approved agreement signed by the Fire Chief (or his approved representative) deferring the fire protection requirement. (IFC 102.4)

2. Plan FP3, Remote test area #5 does not correlate with the plans.
a. Cannot locate head number S540,
b. Head S510 is missing in the calcs,
c. Elevations of heads S505, S508, S509 and S540 are at 15'-2" and reduction formula is incorporating a 12'-2" ceiling.
Provide corrected plans and calculations that correlate with the design incorporating. (IFC 105.4.2, 901.2 and BMC 7-01-50 IFC-901.2)

3. When resubmitting plans with corrections provide a minimum of three complete sets that include certification of water supply, data submittals of all listed devices installing, etc. (IFC 105.4.2, 901.2 and BMC 7-01-50 IFC-901.2)

Re-Submittals Of The Following Items Are Required:
1. Provide fire protection plans including full fire sprinkler protection throughout this facility or an approved agreement signed by the Fire Chief (or his approved representative) deferring the fire protection requirement. (IFC 102.4)

2. For extended coverage sprinklers, the minimum design area shall be that corresponding to the maximum density for the hazard in Figure 11.2.3.1.5 or the area protected by five sprinklers, whichever is greater. Plan FP2 System #2 Area #2 remote test area is deficient, 1017.5-ft/2. The minimum allowed (incorporating 11.2.3.2.3.1) is: 1026-ft/2. Revise, resubmit with correct design meeting 11.2.3.2.3.1, 14.4.4.1*, 11.2.3.2.2.4 and 14.4.4.1.1.1, etc. (NFPA 13-11.2.3.2.2.4, IFC 105.4.2, 901.2 and BMC 7-01-50 IFC-901.2)

3. Plan FP3, 1st floor grid was verified for 1½" (thinwall) incorporating E.C. heads. Nothing was verified for SSP's (standard spray sprinklers) on rest of the system which is dissimilar in design, pipe sizing, spray application, number of heads that would be operating in a test area, etc., etc. Tree piping is ranging from 1½", 1¼" and 1"? Provide revised plans/calcs (that is not designed with a "Room Design Method", unless complete construction information is provided on ALL rooms on this floor, for verification. If calculations do not correlate with correct or corrected system piping, resubmittal of the same shall be required. (IFC 105.4.2, 901.2 and BMC 7-01-50 IFC-901.2)
