4/5/2006 - SLR to Gordon Goldsmith - I spoke with Randy this morning regarding your email below. After a little questioning from me as to the real reason for their problem, I suggested several alternative methods of providing the valving. As he started to look at their design closer, he acknowledged that he thought he could see a solution and he will go back and discuss it with his designer. My guess is that they will find a way to put the valve in. If they can't, I told him he would need to bring in the sprinkler piping plans, including floor plans and elevations and sections, which clear show what it is that prevents any control valve from being installed, and then we would have a basis for a discussion. He agreed to do that if necessary.
So you're off the hook for now, Gordon.

Sam, I had a lengthy discussion with Randy at DeBest. He is asking for the FM to approve the omission of the second floor control valve, (BCC Chapter 7- 903.1.5), because of lack of space and other issues. The core/shell BLD 05-01262 FIR 06-00161 approved by Bill A. and FIR 06-00218, 219, and 220 that were disapproved. Address is 1897 Wildwood the Ted Mason Building. Randy was lobbying hard for my approval, he assured me that if there was an alternative he would not be calling the FM making this request. Obviously I am stepping in this position w/o any history or information regarding this issue. I have deferred him back to you regarding his building construction issue. If after talking to Randy you could advice Chief Hanneman or myself, an informed decision could be made. Thanks Sam for you help!
