I'm glad to see the additional coverage in the future. For this daycare though, do you want me to follow existing code (no smokes?), or do you want to talk with them and possibly suggest placing smokes in the space (3 additional smoke detectors are required) since the new ordinance will require them?

Mary, In the new proposed ordinance we added smokes to this type of occupancy. I think we ended up beefing up the E over and above what the code requires.

Hi Dave,
I have a relocatable (1949 sq ft) to be installed at St Als (6520 Norwood Dr.), the occupancy is E/50, but the building scope (BLD04-02856) indicates a daycare.
I have received fire alarm plans for a manual FA system, but have a concern that there is no smoke detector coverage. (one for the FACP only). As I haven't run into this before (Boise schools always installs smokes), I double checked IFC 2000 and for an E none are required. I spoke with Jenifer and she told me to e-mail you as the new day care ordinance is being modified and will include the smokes. If you feel that smokes would be warranted here, Jenifer thought you could call them to let them know.
