Description	This permit is to make corrections and modifications to an existing fire alarm system in the Idaho Building located at 280 8th Street Boise Idaho. An upgrade agreement was established to correct deficiencies discovered on the fire alarm system March, 14 2006. Item 1) of the upgrade agreement requires the new cooking hood installed at Satchels' to be connected to the first floor zone of the original fire alarm panel. A fire alarm bell is to be installed on the exterior of Satchels' intended to alert responding personnel of a fire within that structure. Item 2) is to remove all initiating devices currently connected to a second fire panel located in the basement. The basement panel shall serve only as a DACT offsite communicator. All trouble signals initiated at the original FACP shall be transmitted to the supervising station as supervisory signals. Item 3) is to provide proper supervision of the fire sprinkler pump per NFPA 20 and NFPA 72. To include pump running, phase reversal and loss of power. Item 4) is to required audible fire alarms levels per the IFC 2003 907.10.2 however, it has been established that the 1988 NFPA 72 G audible fire alarm levels will be acceptable which are 50dBa in residences, 60dBa in business occupancies and 55dBa in mercantile occupancies.

Idaho Building Fire Alarm Upgrade Inspection 1/24/2008: The inspection was conducted by Myself, Forrest France, and Tom Gainor the following items need to corrected. Before final.

1. OS&Y valves need to be adjusted so they report trouble when closed and switch is in the stem thread.
2. 6th Floor dry system tampers and fire alarm connections need to be correctly covered in a junction box and open connection installed properly in a J-Box with wire nuts not just tapped.
3. Light outside Satchels grill needs to be changed to "Red" with guard as submitted.
4. Install signage at new fire alarm light installed at Stachels grill indicating "Kitchen Hood Fire Alarm"
5. Post custom reset instructions in FACP for fire personnel
6. Install lockout and Identify breaker feeding FACP and Dialer power
7. Have NFPA 72 Forms ready when calling in for Last Inspection.
8. Keys to FACP must be located in Knox Box.
9. Add Audible Bell in West Corridor on levels 6, 5, 4, and 3
Note: Audible levels in furthest residential rooms with the outside and bedroom doors closed did not move the Inspection db Meter which lowest setting is 60db off of Zero. The bell could be heard but we suspect the audible level would not alert someone sleeping or would not be heard with the TV playing. The db readings shown on the submitted plans must not have been conducted inside the rooms with doors closed. or any ambient background noise.

Mike Timmerman - Tom Gainor , Both went to the Idaho Building to check repair work on the fire alarm system due to problems with the alarm system upgrade and repair work installation. Many problems have been occurring and the offsite reporting has not been working. The building representative called Tom and said that the fire alarm panel had been corrected again and wanted to remove the fire watch. Tom and I went to witness that the fire alarm panel was working again and get a status on the upgrade project. No plans were on site, however, the alarm contractor said that they were very close to finishing. We conducted a simple manual pull station test and the "Test Failed". The alarm bells went off but the supervising station did not get a correct alarm signal and no reporting of an alarm was made to Ada county dispatch .
