following email sent to D Hanneman today.
I called the sprinkler contractor (Delta Fire) this morning to ask for a rep to accompany us on a walk-through of the building to evaluate the current status of the sprinkler system.
I spoke with the Branch Manager, Ron, who is also the system designer. He indicated the system is not ready for a final and referred me to the local project foreman, Clarence McLain, for more details.
Clarence indicated: the system is not is service and is not ready for inspection; there are no approved plans at this point; three stairs wells are lacking sprinklers; the wrong temperature heads have been installed throughout the building; Delta has not requested any inspections of the system; Delta's insurance coverage prohibits them from putting the system in service until it has been inspected and approved, including the fire alarm system providing the offsite sprinkler monitoring.
Therefore, Delta will not turn it on, unless the City officially accepts liability for water damage or other types of damage from potential system malfunction.
Delta recently resubmitted revised plans due to numerous field changes and those were denied 9/4/07 for inadequate water pressure and for lack of information on the sprinkler heads. The pressure requirement is a statewide requirement, so the plans should never have been resubmitted showing inadequate pressure. Clarence is aware that the wrong temperature heads were installed throughout the building, as noted on our initial 7/17/07 plan approval review and in our latest 9/4/07 review, and will now have to be replaced. He is also aware of the lack of sprinklers in the stairwells, which he said was due to an architectural change. Adding these heads will necessitate another plan modification.

It does not appear there would be any value in doing a walk through inspection at this time. Let me know if there is anything further, you would like me to do.
Regards,
Sam
