Piping is ok to cover except near the cafeteria area due to vapor barrier contacting the upright sprinkler heads and in the classroom where the upright sprinkler heads are located too far from the deck. Also the two uprights at the attic access ladder are too far from the deck. Also the eaves are ok to cover. I let the general contractor know that nearly all of the manual pull stations for the fire alarm system are mounted too high and will need to be lowered.

I found the sprinkler piping in the Daycare and the next two adjoining rooms sizing did not match plans. 1" piping was installed where 1 1/2" was shown. Also 1 1/2" piping was installed where 2" piping was shown. I went over these discrepancies with the fitter and also contacted Shilos office and spoke to Stan. I stopped the inspection after these three rooms. I let all of the involved parties know that the piping installed needs to match the plans or the plans need to be resubmitted reflecting the actual installation.

The inspection today was only for the cafeteria. One truss in the southwest corner had been damaged as a result of the improper installation of a sprinkler pipe hanger. I contacted Jim Sly and described the problem to him. Jim said it should not be an issue. Additional insulation was required above the upright heads in the northwest corner of the cafeteria and it was installed as I waited. It appears that all of the hangers that I spot checked today were in need of relocating as based on yesterdays inspection. I gave the general contractor permission to cover just the cafeteria and a small rectangular storage room on the west side of the gymnasium. A representative of Kreisenbeck Construction again asked if the classrooms could be covered. I stated that if the were covered all ceiling tile would have to be removed for my inspection. I also stated that myself and Jim Sly had told Nacho previously that no ceilings were to be installed.

This is for the cafeteria. Inspection for the cafeteria failed due to upright heads located in the northwest corner being too far down from the deck. Per Mike insulation will be installed to match the other areas. Also the first hanger attachment I checked was not installed per NFPA 13 - 9.1.5.6.1. Piping cannot be covered in the cafeteria until I can reverify these two items. Shilo Automatic Sprinkler and the general contractor requested permission to cover the piping in all of the classrooms. I denied this request due to acces to the piping for inspection. Also the piping as installed is not approved at this time.

The underground flush passed. I did a quick walk through while waiting and found the t-bar is being installed as well as some ceiling tiles/lights. I notified the project superintendant that no ceiling are to be installed or sprinkler piping to be covered since the sprinkler system has not been inspected yet. Jim Sly the structural inspector has also been notified.

Mike wanted me to just inspect the cafeteria today. I found that the pipe sizes as shown on the approved plans for this area do not match what is installed. Infact the unapproved as-builts that the fitter had do not match the installation. No piping is to be covered. Correct as-built plans need to be submitted and approved.

Only the piping above the hard lid areas as marked on the plans is ok to cover. Per the sprinkler fitter the plans are being resubmitted with the installation changes. I started to do a rough-in inspection but found heads added in the attic space and the piping configuration changed. It appears that instead of 12 heads supplied by 2" piping there are now 15 heads supplied from the 2" supply. This was on the first line I looked at. The piping configuration was the issue in two of the only two areas I looked at. I stopped the inspection at this point. On the way out of the building I noticed that the building eaves are combustible concealed spaces that will require sprinkler protection as per NFPA 8.14 or at a minumum meet one of the 15 exceptions as listed in the same section. I left a correction notice with the job superintendant.
