Site review of new OH material handling conveyors which create a sprinkler obstruction situation, with Paul Marcolina and Steve Murdock. Depth and extent of OH conveyor equipment preclude meeting the NFPA 13, 8.5.5 Obstruction to Sprinkler Discharge spacing requirements. They propose using the Obstructed Construction requirements, but the nature of the obstructions does not fit the Construction Obstruction definitions of 3.7. They agreed to investigate out how their other facility protected similar conveyor obstructions, obtain FM's insurance recommendations, and look into the possibility of installing baffles to simulate construction obstructions as defined by NFPA 13, 3.7 so as to allow use of those requirements.
