This plan modification is to incorporate field modifications and review comments for the notification devices.

11/10/09 This fire alarm permit is to provide audible/visible notification to new public and/or common use areas created by the tenant remodel and to maintain audibility throughout any altered areas. Devices are to be connected to previously installed remote power supply. No initiating devices are part of this permit scope.

Associated building permit: BLD09-00945 (IDAHO DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND WELFARE) (INTERIOR REMODEL) (SOUTH BUILDING) Fire sprinklers used for building area increase and for code trade-offs. To remodel the interior of an existing 73,639 square foot building for the current tenant. Several existing restrooms will be upgraded to be accessible to the disabled. Work is to include interior nonbearing walls, interior doors, interior windows, millwork, finishes, and an exterior ramp. The work is required to comply with the approved drawings, with the plan review report, and with all applicable codes and ordinances. The fire sprinkler system is required to comply with NFPA 13 as regulated by the Fire Department. The fire sprinkler system is required to be upgraded to comply with current standards, including quick-response sprinklers, in order to avoid enclosed 1-hr fire-resistance-rated corridors. Elements of the existing fire sprinkler system that already comply with current standards may remain without upgrade. This building remodel will be done in phases. Occupancy of a completed phase shall be coordinated with the Structural Inspector and Fire Inspector. **CJW**

Rob Ahten with Protex called regarding the required map indicating an updated/current plan showing the intiating devices. He wanted to know if he was required to provide it even if he did not modify any intiating devices. I let him know that, while the comment was not on the comments for this particular permit, that it is on permit FIR10-00013. I let him know it would be his responsibility. He stated confusion over other projects he said he has not had to do this on. I let him know that in years passed, we have only required an updated map if initiating devices were being modified in the scope of work. But, I let him know that in recent years, the fire department has had trouble with older buildings not having updated maps and that the response times have been hindered. They (the fire department) have requested that every fire alarm permit (regardless of initiating devices being affected or not) address the map being updated. I informed Rob that he should just count on, for every fire alarm permit, updating the map.

Fire sprinkler risers #2 and #3 inspected today. Flow switches and tamper switches functioned correctly. These items are not shown on the fire alarm plans and will need to be included when the plan modifications are submitted prior to a final sign off.

This inspection is for phase 4. One additional horn/strobe needs to be installed as per the approved plans. Also horn only devices were not installed in the right hand corridor system of phase 4 as per the plans. Either re-install the horns or provide code compliant coverage through out the entire space served by the corridor system which includes the Lobby area.
