This fire alarm permit is to replace the existing fire alarm system with all new panels and devices. This permit scope includes partial area smoke detection (some with beam detectors), manual pull station, full notification (voice evacuation), HVAC monitoring, kitchen hood suppression system monitoring, sprinkler system monitoring, and door holder release. There is no associated building permit.

Items not repaired and included on the original inspection correction list include the duct detector at "Taters", missing signage at the door to the FACP room, sprinkler tamper switch must report as a supervisory condition. Also noted a trouble on the panel at one beam detector, overspaced and missing notification at the mechanical mezzanine, walkthrough completed for area B. Attempted an expedited test of the building alarm notification circuts by providing an additional inspector on site- test failed due to non-functional voice evacuation speakers at the main convention hall. A re-inspection fee will apply to the next site visit, see permit conditions for details.

Correction items for areas inspected to date include; HVAC duct smoke detector at address L2-S29 in concessions room 210 "Perch" failed to initiate unit shut down- plan sheet F.A.2.1, duct smoke detector address L1-S29 in "Tators" failed to shut down HVAC unit, missing tamper switch and monitor module at the outside control valve for the fire sprinkler system- F.A. 2.3/2.0, missing one notification appliance at exhibit hall 200- sheet F.A.2.5, post signage at the door to the FACP room per review notes, notification devices have been changed from wall mount to ceiling mount at the restrooms F.A.2.5, incorrect cd setting at lockers 179, minor adjustments to as-built plans discussed, need clarification of room use at the "business center" area D as is lacking notification. Items inspected include kitchen hood monitoring, fire sprinkler riser supervision, heat detectors, manual pull station, area smoke detection at the basement, all duct detectors, door holds, walkthrough regarding notification appliance locations for areas A, C and D.

Lee with Allied General called regarding existing combination smoke/door holders that no longer function. They are going to use detection and wall door holders rather than replace with newer combination devices due to cost and availability. Because the doors are those serving the kitchen, Lee asked if heat detectors would be allowed to be used on the kitchen side with smoke detectors on the corridor side. The door holders would be closed on general alarm. I let him know the heat detectors would be allowed in this case. I also let him know that, while it would ultimately be the inspector's decision, that these smoke and heat detector additions could be indicated on as-built plans provided at the final inspection instead of needing to submit a plan modification. I also mentioned that if other changes were made, it may prompt a plan modification.

Passed with conditions (A plan modification will be required upon completion of installation): There are significant redlines on the plans that exceed the allowed amount for field verification but are not extensive enough to require a re-submittal. Upon completion of the fire alarm installation, a plan modification shall be submitted to the city, with approval obtained, prior to calling for a final inspection. The plan modification shall include implementation of the following review comments and redlines on the drawings, as well as any as-built conditions.

Spoke to Joe to go over questions on the drawings. He is going to email me a clarification for the notification in the basement. I let him know that the comments I will have on the drawings will be too great to allow a field verification, so I either need to reject them and have them resubmitted (essentially one set of review fees), or I could approve them with the understanding a plan modification would need to be submitted when the installation is complete, but prior to calling for a final inspection (two sets of review fees). He opted to have me approve them and they understand they will need to submit a plan modification prior to calling for a final inspection.
