Spoke to John with Fire Sentry to let him know I can not approve the fire alarm plans because there is an open building permit (BLD08-01564) that needs to be finaled first. That building permit was not finaled because under the permit a 10-ton HVAC unit was installed over the gym with a duct detector that needs to be tied in to the existing fire alarm system. A fire permit for that work has never been pulled. I explained to John that that will need to be addressed before I can pass this permit. I let him know it could be done under a separate permit, or I could fail this one and he could resubmit with the duct detector work so only one review fee would apply. I also let John know that, while it was approved under the original permit to allow the main building and portable building to have two independent fire alarm systems, it would be highly recommended to tie in the panels so that the main panel could monitor alarm, trouble, and supervisory functions of the portable's panel. I reiterated that the 'tie-in' would not be a required issue or hold up this permit due to previous agreements, but that for public safety reasons it really should be done. He stated he would let me know next week which route they'd like to take.
