1/4/11 PLAN MODIFICATION (no initiating devices are affected): This plan modification is to increase the candela ratings of several notification devices to accommodate larger device spacing.

11/12/10: This fire alarm permit is to provide notification and connect to the existing fire alarm system to accommodate a tenant improvement.

Associated building permit: BLD10-02170 (GREEN CHUTES & SALT TEARS COFFEE SHOP) One-hr construction and fire sprinklers are used for building area increase. To remodel an existing 11,236 square foot tenant space (total of 11,566 square feet after a 330 square foot mezzanine is constructed) for a restaurant and retail sales tenant. No cooking operations that create grease laden vapors are allowed within this tenant space or under the canopy. The proposed BBQ is required to be located outside of this building in an area that is open to the sky. Work is to include two restrooms accessible to the disabled, interior nonbearing partitions, four 160 square foot shipping containers to function as rooms, ramps and landings to provide access to the shipping containers, millwork, interior finishes, dining tables and chairs, service counters, a Type II hood, and kitchen equipment. The shipping containers are to have the doors welded in the open position. Mezzanine work includes wood stud bearing walls, gypsum board shear walls, wood floor joists, and wood floor sheathing. The mezzanine floor and the supporting walls are required to be of 1-hr fire-resistance-rated construction. Mezzanine stairway work includes steel stringers, steel columns, steel beams, and steel treads. This building is required to be maintained as a Type V-A building (i.e. 1-hr fire-resistance-rated). Work includes removing the existing suspended 1-hr ceiling and creating a 1-hr fire-resistance-rated roof-ceiling assembly using a gypsum board membrane. The work is required to comply with the approved drawings, with the plan review report, and with all applicable codes and ordinances. The fire sprinkler system is required to be maintained in compliance with NFPA 13 as regulated by the Fire Department. **CJW**

Todays test included testing of the flow switch, PIV and EOL voltage for the audio/visual devices in the new tenant space. Supervision of the new NAC panel by the new FACP was verified as well. Still need the duct smoke detector locations addressed/tested, correct descriptions at teh new remote annunciator and the correct documentation as per telephone conversations with the plan reviewer.
Miscellaneous action  1/10/2011 DONE
As-built drawings and data sheets shall be required at the time of inspection. Some of the requested documentation was brought in, however the one-line did not accurately show the communication method (phone lines are shown but an AES RF Radio is being used), the new NAC panel data sheets were missing from the new submittal set, and new NAC panel is listed on the one-line as 'existing'. Two sets of these items must be provided to the inspector at the time of inspection. One set for him to sign and leave at the job site and the other to bring back to the office for our records.

Inspection was cancelled due to tenant complaints per Jeff's direction. I went ahead and verified locations of the audio/visuals. Everything was located ok except one 115cd ceiling mount will need to be increased to 135cd to provide adequate coverage to the "welding curtain" walls. These walls were not shown on the city approved plans. I also noted that the two new duct smoke detectors were not located per code. I discussed possible solutions with the on site fire alarm tech and the tenants designer. No actual testing of devices including the end of line voltage drops were done.

Spoke with David of Allied General. He called to let us know the existing fire alarm panel was damaged beyond repair last night due to a water valve being left open. The existing panel was a Unimode 10 (ADT version of a Firelite panel) and cannot be purchased. Allied General would like to replace it with the same panel (Firelite), it just doesn't have the name 'Unimode10'. Due to the circumstances, and after discussing the issue with Scott Arellano, it is agreed that the contractor can replace the panel as an 'emergency replacement like-for-like' rather than panel replacement requiring upgrades. I let David know that I still want to see two sets of submittals that contain the data sheets for the new panel as well as the data sheets for all existing devices (initiating and notification) that will be connected to the new panel so we would have accurate records for what is in the building. I also let him know there would not be a review fee involved due to the circumstances. He asked if the entire building would need to be re-tested. I told him in this situation that only the typical inspection for the tenant space (i.e. 10% of existing devices plus 100% of the new ones) would be required.

Called David with Allied General. I discovered, after a conversation with the inpsector, that there is an existing AES panel where the submitted drawings indicate the DACT is to be used. David said they are just going to re-connect to the existing AES panel. I let him know I need two new riser/on-line diagrams indicating the existing AES instead of the phone lines and with the correct FACP model number/name indicated. He stated he would bring those with him when he brings in the two submittal packets requested.

Many of the strobes are overspaced. Visual coverage is required in the Janitors closet since it is now a part of the common area due to the door not being installed. The PIV valve label at the remote annunciator needs to be labeled correctly. It is currently labeled "anti-freeze". The notification circuit was not activated for testing due to the outstanding issues. A drawing plan modification will be required to be submitted for approval if additional devices are added or candella modified.
