Meeting  10/19/2011 DONE
Met with Jason with AEI regarding the audibility in existing vs. remodeled areas. Jason had questions about the requirements for conflicting audible notification. I explained that any area open to the t.i. space (i.e. not closed of by doors, walls, etc.) would need to match the new temporal code; while existing devices separated by rated walls etc could maintain the steady tone until those areas are upgraded provided the sounds are not obvious conflicts. I told Jason that once the new devices were in place, if they have questions during testing they could call in a conference and have the inspector come out to clarify any questions or issues that come up. While I was there, Jason asked if the existing pull stations would need to be relocated because they seemed too high. I told him it would depend on when those devices were installed and under what code they were approved. I let him know I would look in to it and call him. I said as long as the existing devices meet the code they were installed under and are not being modified in any way (i.e. relocated, replaced, etc...) then they could remain as-is.

I called Jason regarding the questions about the existing pull station location. The HR installation of those pull stations was approved under the 1994 UFC that stated "manual pull stations shall be mounted no less than 3.5' to the bottom of the box and no greater than 5' to the top of the box". I told Jason as long as the existing pull stations fell under that range and as long as he's not modifying the devices, they could remain as-is.
