Left a message for the fire alarm vendor and the designer regarding major discrepencies between the submittals and the record drawings found in onbase under FIR99-00030.
Telephone call  11/17/2011 DONE
Spoke to Jared Miller at DC Engineering regarding the discrepencies between the record drawings and the recently submitted drawings as well as questions about the new smoke detectors being added (i.e. their purpose). He stated that he was not the designer of record but would get the information to the right person and have him/her call me. I emailed Jared the pdf files of the record drawings from FIR99-00030 (obtained from on-base)
Telephone call  11/17/2011 DONE
Rob A. with Protex returned my call to go over the discrepencies. He said that the record drawings we have are not how the system was actually installed. He stated that the SLC is class 'B' (not 'A' as the record drawings indicate). He said they are removing the remote power supply and putting all of the notification on the main FACP. Rob also stated that, per the mechanical engineer, the duct detectors are not required, therefore they are being removed as well. Rob verified that there is only one remote annunciator panel and it will be relocated to the new vestibule/entrance. Rob did not know the intent of the non-required new smoke detectors and stated that would need to be answered by the engineer/designer.
Telephone call  11/17/2011 DONE
Spoke with Rick at DC Engineering who verified what the vendor stated regarding the class A vs class B circuiting, removing the remote power supply, and only one remote annunciator panel. He stated that the smoke detectors were placed due to the IFC requirement in 907.2.2.1 for ambulatory health care facilities. I let him know that the building does qualify for the exception that states the automatic detection is not required if the building is equiped throughout with a sprinkler system. I let him know that if he would like to take the exception I could just make it a note on the plans and get them approved. However, if he chooses to keep the detection, I went over several areas that do not have adequate smoke detection coverage and let him know that I would then need to deny the plans and await a resubmittal providing additional devices and coverage. He said he would try to get back to me later today on a decision.
